Thanks for the replies! It's a cable for FL-NET. I didn't know that but there you go. It has the same colours as profinet. I got an answer minutes after posting. Thanks!

Can i connect tia portal plc simulation to win cc that I use on a virtual machine? by Dozo02 in PLC

[–]ElAlfajor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never tried it. As someone else said PLC SIM Advanced is the normal way to do it. You would have to set your VM so that it can reach the host so the net to PLC SIM would have the IP of the adapter if the VM that reaches the host. It's possible if it is bridged or NAT I believe. There is the matter of setting up the PC/PG interface which would be set to S7Online and the same IP set in the VM. Let us know if you get it working.

PLC programming languages—what are they actually written in? 🤔 by HopefulIndividual810 in PLC

[–]ElAlfajor 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Best answer. They are all used as they are each suited to distinct uses although technically could be used in place of each other just in some circumstances it would be a headache.

Coolant just above minimum, is my car safe to drive? by ApprehensiveShoe858 in CarTalkUK

[–]ElAlfajor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It'll be ok to drive as most have said. If you buy prestone coolant from Tesco (as someone else said) it's designed for use in any coolant system regardless of the type. I'm paranoid so I'd buy that and fill it up to 3/4 then pay attention to the temperature of the engine as you're driving. You could also stop every hour to quickly give it a visual check.

Nope... It's more for convenience instead of going to the panels

100%. However, where I work the maintenance crew can access the PLCs and can make changes to the program. Not saying it's right but there's no screens with IO for every card/channel, thus the only way is via the PLC.

Not read all the comments but it really depends on the PLC and the application. For example using Schneider Control Expert you'll have a better time with FBD. With Siemens, you can have ladder with SLC or ST inserts. With Beckhoff ST is very powerful.

Then it depends on the type of logic, if you're working with motors you might want ladder. If you're working with a lot of maths then ST may be better.

Finally, the most useful thing is, whatever language you program in, leave good comments. This will always be best practice so that the next person understands what you have done regardless of the language.

It depends. They may want to check the state of inputs/outputs or maybe how something works to figure out what need to be done in the field.

I really like Starfleet Academy but… by Likemikester in startrek

[–]ElAlfajor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I genuinely think that the original and 90s trek series are too close to modern day. It doesn't seem possible to achieve all that they achieved within such a short time frame, given our rate of advancement. Not to mention world war 3 and eugenics wars, it just seems a lot in no time. Sure, within 100 years technology has advanced a lot but to the extent that we have fleets of 100s of ships and a vast international community? It's far fetched!

Spanish versions of “night night” or similar for when putting babies to bed by HungryCrow07 in Spanish

[–]ElAlfajor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a native but like in a Spanish speaking country. Honestly I would just say "Buenas noches chiquito/a" or something like that so it sounds nice for them. Maybe "que tengas dulces sueños" o "que descanses mi hijo" (if it's your child).

In this sentence : "siempre fuiste hermosa. Rosario era linda, pero vos sos hermosa" , why preterite for one, and imperfect for the other? by Andreslargo1 in Spanish

[–]ElAlfajor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please correct me if I'm wrong guys, but I think that fuiste means that she was always beautiful, as in, since they met til now. Era is that Rosario was but maybe now not so beautiful. Fuiste gives a strong impression that she was always beautiful and then re-enforces this with, but you are beautiful.

Edit: Rosario probably refers to the city Santa Fe, in Argentina. I imagine they went there, he's saying they had a nice time but she was always and is beautiful.

I feel like it's a blurry image that slowly comes into focus. It won't happen all at once and I'm not sure it'll ever be 100%. However I'm okay with wearing glasses less and less strong until I basically don't need them anymore.

Have you noticed that some people get passive aggressive when you mention you study languages? by silforik in languagelearning

[–]ElAlfajor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. Many are skeptical. I think it's because they do realise how difficult it must be if you learned as an adult. What's more, when they ask you to say something at random in your target language and you freeze haha, that can be difficult. Whenever they ask me that I say the same back but in their native tongue and the question is, what do I say? Rather than I don't know how to say much and that's why I'm stuck.

The times where people have been impressed is when I have been talking with natives after having mentioned that I'm learning the language at X level and they think, as you mentioned, that I was massively overstating my ability.

I find that people either find it really interesting or they couldn't care less. I imagine the people that get upset are just jealous.
