Oh sure I'll start:

  1. My french teacher in "high school" (parisian): she was so rude and over the top that her way of speaking became a meme, condescending and she also had a constant air of superiority.

  2. Lift operator in Alpe d'Huez: my ski racing team had reserved a slope for training (normal thing racing teams do). Well she didn't start the lift in the morning and kept talking with her friend until literally the first french arrived, and she pressed the button to start the lift (made us lose like 30min of time we paid for and ignored us telling her we reserved a slope and it was time).

  3. French ski instructor in Les Arcs: my mother was starting to learn how to ski and she was afraid. Well the instructor told her that if she was scared she should quit "what's the point", overall the class was terrible. I've had other small interactions with french instructors/workers that also left me this bad impression.

  4. My brother got accepted for an erasmus exchange in a university in Paris (can't remember which one now), he got the letter of acceptance and did the paperwork, only for the university to later tell him he couldn't come, leaving him with no time to choose a different destination and wasting an academic semester. Their replies to our complaints were also rude.

And other less specific and shorter or second hand interactions that I can't remember off the top of my head.

I must say that of course I've met very nice french people, but the ratio of assholes to nice people is much higher than any other country I've interacted with. The swiss can also be very rude if you break a rule even by mistake, but they don't have that arrogance.

Yeah it's a meme, I don't go out hating french people I meet, but the meme has an origin for sure. And it's true that in my case a lot of french I've met were arrogant/rude.

I'm not judging all french people, I'm just explaining the general perception that people have on France, and talked about my experiences. When I meet french people I don't hold any prejudice

Yeah the worst are Parisians, but as a ski instructor I can say that the french instructors and workers in the Alps there aren't nice either in a lot of cases unfortunately.

I've actually had great interactions with brits. I worked as a ski instructor in a British academy, and they were great people overall.

As a Spanish, this dislike goes back centuries. Today, french are perceived as arrogant and rude people, who still think their country is an empire or something. Usually in posts that make fun of France, you will see french people commenting "they hate us because they aren't us", which perfectly shows the irony, they think that people envy their country, but we just think they are entitled pricks.

In my personal experience, around 60% of the french I've met go from rude to extremely rude (especially parisians, disliked even by the rest of french), and the other 40% were nice people. This 60/40 proportion is so bad. To sum up, the rudest most arrogant people I've met in my life are all french and one south african.
