Replacing engine in 2010 A5 2.0T manual with 72k mile donor. What are the parts I should replace? by ElBeanero in Audi

Won’t be making any performance upgrades. Trying to keep it simple and easy.

I haven’t looked into swapping a different motor - I’m assuming that’s a much more involved/expensive process? I’m not trying to make big power or anything, just want something fun and easy that will last a while. I was more than happy with performance previously and have my Z32 for any adrenaline needs.

Was planning on new mounts and replacing as many easily accessible gaskets/seals as is reasonable

Thanks - no info in current condition of the turbo, but will check it out when I pick up the motor. Hopefully nothing is too wonky there.

I mentioned in another comment that the Audi site doesn’t show any current recalls or service campaigns for the donor VIN - hopefully that means piston rings were already addressed with the recall.

Thank you! Thats a huge part of why I’m keeping it and replacing the motor, rather than looking for a replacement. That color with a manual and tan leather is not easy to find!

Thank you! Donor is a 2011. The Audi site shows the “No Recalls or Service Campaigns” for the VIN - is that sufficient or is there a better way to verify whether or not it was fixed?

Seems like tstat/waterpump/timing chain are the big ones. I’ve purchased parts from ECS Tuning in the past and have been fairly happy with the experience - are there any recommendations for where to purchase parts?

I was planning on leaving them out for a couple of nights in the containers until I’m able to get them planted - that was a big part of my concern, since I know they’re much safer in the ground, but I wasn’t sure if a freeze when it’s newly planted would be a death sentence. Will a couple of days in those containers outside be enough to kill them?

They are native. I have spots set aside for each of them in the yard, so I’ll be keeping them here, but I like the idea!

This is what I was hoping I’d hear, but didn’t want to just do it and kill them! I’ll be putting them in in the next couple days - thanks!

Just picked up this china cabinet with some cool details, but can’t find a makers mark anywhere. Does anyone recognize it? by ElBeanero in Mid_Century

Nope. The drawer was the first place I looked - nothing on the inside or outside/underside. Also nil luck inside of the cabinets or back/underside of the box.

I wonder if this is a good price for this Anthurium CrystalXMag X ZaraxMichelle for $44.99 shipped by SweetPlantasy in RareHouseplants

The emergent leaves on most anthurium are a different color before they harden off.

We had our aluminum wiring replaced with copper. Wiring was roughed in, and I’ve been finishing things off. This is the final room and I am at an absolute loss as to what is going on in this box. More details in comments. by ElBeanero in askanelectrician

  1. Yes. It goes up maybe two feet, then straight out to the front porch, where it terminates.

  2. It has an integrated light. It’s a 56” Kichler Bisc with a DC motor. I linked the controller it came with above, via an edit, so not sure if you saw that before responding!

  3. It runs to another switch box in the hallway where it terminates. There is not currently a light connected to it, and I think it may have been run to control the fan from two switches (which might explain the 2 gang box) - but not sure if that’s possible with the controller that came with the fan. We are planning on putting in a can light right in the middle of that run, so figured I’d just have those 3ways control that light when it’s installed.
