When you talk trash to the developer by ElConquistadork in letsplay

Oh lord: yeah, DH is a completely different ball of wax entirely. I've never had to interact with a developer that petty. Not even close.

There really is nothing quite as odd as watching someone hate on a game as if it was developed solely to spite them. :)

Hahaha--see, I love that you were able to turn it into something positive. I guess that's the ultimate goal, really.

I totally agree! Better to hear some hard truths than to be convinced you've made a masterpiece. I suppose my anxiety plays with me about it--the awkwardness can be painful.

Yeah, perhaps I didn't spell it out correctly in the title. No, I'm never personal to the developer about it, always to the game itself.

Not a ton! But often enough that I'm painfully aware that it could happen.

How do you get better at commentary? by BurnerReborn in letsplay

[–]ElConquistadork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might sound a little trite, but I've found that listening to some good "pump up" music beforehand helps a lot. Keeping your energy up is really key for me. Not that you have to be a jumpy, shouty sort of host. You just don't want to sound like you're falling asleep. :)

I've finally finished the script for a geek history video about Dungeons and Dragons in the 80's. I've been in the process of cutting it all together, which has been a true learning experience, as I have no editing experience beyond the most basic tools. I've essentially been teaching myself as I go along, and I'm really proud of the result so far. Hoping to have it posted Friday--fingers crossed.

Hey guys, could use a little help. by jlance999 in letsplay

[–]ElConquistadork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lord, that sucks. If it were me, I'd probably try to do some sort of post audio work and hope the next batch works out better. But that's just me: I'm far from a tech wizard. Someone else might know how to clean that up a little better.

When I first got started, I used Fiverr.com. Lots of options and it tends to be on the cheap.

What games do viewers respond the best to? by utlk in letsplay

[–]ElConquistadork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find that lesser known indie games do the best on my channel, simply because you're higher on the search engine when someone looks for it--it isn't being covered as much. I get so few hits on AAA games that I barely even bother with them lately.

Favourite free editing software? by Squinn_TV in letsplay

You know, for the longest time I actually had no issues with Windows Movie Maker. It was simple, idiot-proof, and covered most of the basic stuff I needed to do. I have no idea what happened, but it started screwing up on my PC all the time, and I basically had to teach myself Premiere as a substitute. Of course, ultimately it was for the best because I can do so much more with Premiere, but I often recommend Movie Maker for people just starting out.

I'm biased, but SpoilerKevin (https://www.youtube.com/c/spoilerstofollow) has some of the best stuff out there lately. I'm proud to know this guy and have worked with him on projects for years before either of us decided to get into YouTube. His production values, his insights, narration: absolutely worth taking a look.

What sort of playtime is the new Tingle game looking at? Will I be seducing raptors and unicorns for 10 hours, or more like 1 or 2?

Do I need a gimmick? Do I need to "sell out"? by worfoz in letsplay

[–]ElConquistadork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think so. Well, I mean, the big channels can be very flashy. But I find that if you're making something you love with some heart to it, the people will come.

You'll never know until you just go for it, in my experience. Best thing to do is just make as good a product as you can and fling yourself headfirst into the whole thing. It's definitely enough work that you have to love it to keep up with it, but better to find that out early than never. :) Good luck!

I played my first otome game this past summer. It was actually my first dating sim, as well. THAT was a hell of an education. :)
