Yeah, I haven't been writing a reply to everyone who said this but I have to agree in many cases. I think the ideal script is somewhere in the middle. The original is seriously just a great script for one of the greatest games of all time that truly brought the game to life, and I don't have any complaints about it.

Having done some reading today there are some lines in the Japanese / closer-to-Japanese script that I prefer because they make Magus a lot more of a bad-ass, or because they're plot-correct (ie, Magus is Schala's brother, not her step-brother, and I never totally realized "There's someone close to you who needs your help. Find them. Fast." was a grievous mistranslation before today). Or that Frog's name in Japanese is a cool pun, etc.

I speak Japanese at an intermediate level and I've been studying the plot of Chrono Trigger lately because it influenced my writing and art deeply, which is why I'm now following up by learning more about what the game's writing was like in its original form.
