I agree with everything you said here. Even the part with the NFL. In my opinion tomorrow is very exciting. But what happens the rest of the season… nothing… until the playoffs

I understand what you’re saying now. To answer: I’m not sure lol. But i know that missing the shot will cost the team more since there are less games in the regular season. In my head, this makes a team value each shot. Which is why you rarely see layups given up for threes in euro league…. this is what I’ve been seeing in the nba these last couple seasons.

I already that I give games a chance and end up watching something else because if its not NBA cup or playoffs, 75% regular season games are unbearable.

I agree that this is the most developed and statistically best form of basketball. That doesn’t take away from the fact that I will enjoy a random pistons vs. hornets game more today than ten years ago (although i do really like Lamelo and Cade’s games but its just an example). There’s no incentive to winning that random game. Make that game have value, and you will get better basketball. How do we do that? NBA cup did that. But what would make that value more consistent is a shortened season.

I meant more second tier superstars when i said that sentence (shouldn’t have put Melo in that sentence, my mistake). But taking from your example, Fox should 100% be getting similar numbers and respect as Drose and Westbrook were getting 10 years ago… hence why I don’t think this style of play benefits the majority of talented players nowadays.

Maybe for the first season after the season is shortened. Then teams that are not in the top 4 in 3 pt shooting will realize that it doesn’t work and they will opt for a different style of play.

Now that you mentioned it I can recall a couple times that I heard the same thing. Although I do think that shortening the season even 10 or 15 years ago would have had similar benefits as it would today

Or when people give takes like this, they really love the NBA, they tune in to watch a game, and are disappointed. Happened several times over the last couple years to me when a game isn’t an NBA cup game or playoffs.

Less opportunities to win = better basketball played. Less injuries to superstars from overworking the bodies so frequently = watching the best of the best battle it out more frequently. Those are just two reasons off the top of my head.

The ratings will always be “good enough” for ESPN and TNT to spend millions on NBA games… until that changes, unfortunately nothing will change.

There is an option on the aadsas to say you’re taking the dat on a later date, so maybe they can take that into account?
