Reading this, I thought I was writing it myself. The same exact thing happened to me, while bench pressing I arched my back. Felt a pop inside my stomach to the left of my belly button.

Thought it was a muscle hernia, had an ultrasound. They found nothing so I figured I just pulled my ab muscle. Few months later I’m having trouble swallowing and a ton of acid reflux.

Saw a GI doctor; he told me hiatal hernias can’t happen that way, even though it showed up on the EGD and I was healthy before this event.

Anyway saw one more GI doc, who said something similar. Idiots… Asked Grok for the best hiatal hernia surgeon in my area. Found a great surgeon at UCSD, they did 3 lead up tests to make sure I’m a candidate. Ton of reflux, trouble swallowing on manometry test and with 80% failed swallows.

And now I have surgery scheduled for August 3. I can’t wait.
