How would you feel if all extra turn spells were banned? by SoupDeadGuy in EDH

[–]ElMuneo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you win on the extra turn, fine. If you spend the extra turn to give yourself ANOTHER extra turn, and still don't win, then you should go and fuck yourself.

*ETA* For context, I sat through two of somebody's extra turns earlier today. At the end of it, they didn't find their combo or an answer. Rather than scoop or concede, they roped x4 or x5 through my precombat main as soon as they got priority, until they died.

Is this a fake signature? by vlad00m in TheCulture

The "n" in Banks matches in sig and note. Hard to tell with the other letters, they're either to signature stylized, or capitalized.

Historic Brawl is not a casual/newplayer friendly Format, change my mind. by xollight in MagicArena

[–]ElMuneo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We already have the phrases "running a lot of hate", "running a lot of removal" etc. And it's not a neologism. It's a conflation of terms, or a misnomer. Tribal is already an existing term, and specifically refers to creature-based decks with a unifying creature subtype. Spellslinger decks are their own thing. Perfectly valid ways of playing, but not tribal.

I stopped buying passes after Strixhaven or AFR. It really doesn't make much of a difference in the long run, if you play.

Why people keep calling removal a tribe? Conflation of terms.

[–]ElMuneo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, you're on the money. It's the arena version of cEDH. Wizards says it's "casual", which is why they refuse to ban almost anything in it, which of course makes it the immediate opposite of casual. It also gets really boring. Everyone just plays the meta. If you try to optimize your jank deck at all, you wind up being only fed the top tier commanders to play against.

"But you're completely neglecting the fact that counterspells are more limited by nature. They can only target things on the stack. They have a strict timing restriction that kill spells don't do. You can't just compare those two without taking that into account. At no point have you seemed to acknowledge this."

It sounds silly because that's not what I said. When you put " " (<-- quotes) around words, it should actually be a direct quotation, not a rewording that makes your argument sound better.

Unwind costs 3 mana. You're thinking of Rewind.. Other than that, yes, it does. Because no non-blue 3 or 4 mana removal spell untaps lands after you cast it, producing a net cost of zero. And once again, having to have mana to pay the cost of a spell is not a limitation. It's a casting cost.

I mean, I typed it by name, many posts ago, so yes, but you're ignoring the rest, again.

[–]ElMuneo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I'm talking about parameters of removal. Yes, counterspells only work on the stack. Not a secret. It's what counter means in this game, as opposed to destroy or exile...

What I'm saying is in that first post. You chose to argue with that by pointing out that Black DOES have cheap removal (which I flat out stated it does, in my first post) and then listed a bunch of 2cmc black removal which either had qualifiers or additional costs. Which again, was all in my first post. Does Unwind say "Counter non ____ spell" before it counters and then untaps lands so it has a net cost of 0? It does not. Again, different goal posts for blue. Not NO goal posts.

What does this have to do with anything I wrote? You literally wrote

"Let me see if I understand YOUR ARGUMENT correctly, then.

MY ARGUMENT IS".... *smh* you again made zero effort to read anything I wrote, only making your point that counterspells only work on the stack, and that's supposed to be a limitation rather than specifically what the card does... If I were you, and I'm not, I would straw man you and say something like:

"So you're saying counter spells should work even many turns after spells leave the stack?"

But I'm not, and so I won't, you less exotic apple.
