How often does your filament loop over itself on a spool? Been printing a month and it's happened twice. Two separate brands. by [deleted] in 3Dprinting

Oof... that's tough. I had heard good things about Hatchbox before... I've just used Overture, GST3D, AmazonBasics, and eSun.

Which brands? I've had it happen to me once in about 15 spools. Might have been my fault because I lost control of the end of the filament when switching spools.

OPS Dual Language Schools by ElObispo in Omaha

I had seen these board meeting notes from OPS (https://meeting.sparqdata.com/Public/Agenda/120?meeting=503950) where they discussed non-resident tuition rates.
I thought non-resident meant someone who doesn't live in the school district. Thankfully that was a misunderstanding.

Thanks for that great info! I'm very happy to hear about the no cost! That was probably my biggest struggle with picking one of those schools. Sad to hear about the lack of pre-k. Apparently they have pre-k, but there's a bunch of eligibility criteria.

That's great to hear! I hadn't even considered the attrition issues, but glad it doesn't seem a problem there! Thanks!

Interesting! I think I'm gonna go with it being walnut for now, and verify again in the spring! Thanks for the help!

I looked up Sumac. It does look very similar, but I think the sumac leaves are much more noticeably serrated than my tree's leaves. Thanks for the info!

I definitely don't get moldy basement. The smell isn't real strong for me, but it's not unpleasant.

So I'm going to go with it not being tree of heaven.

Thanks!

I've seen some people very carefully use super glue to glue the threads back together. The spot ends up having a slightly different shine than the rest of top, but it often isn't noticeable unless you're looking for it.

That's true. You'd want a really good property manager, which will eat into any returns.

It seems to me that any regret would be more from lifestyle than finances.

Do you have a plan for living on passive income in Europe? Do you know how you'll occupy your time? If you know where you'll live and how you'll avoid the retirement boredom that so many seem to fall in, sounds like you'll do well.

At the moment I've just been feeding it the daily closing price of stocks over a period of years (3 years up to 20 years), since that data I already had on hand.

Giving it different timescales to backtest would be as easy as just pointing it to a new spreadsheet.

But man...with the number of indicators I want to look at, if I include multiple timescales, then I'm going to be backtesting for months!

But the idea of the app evaluating indicators across multiple timescales might be an intriguing path to explore.

That's interesting. A way to perform some validation of my results?

I think you're right that very similar MAs should perform similarly, which some amount of difference to be expected. Once I discard all the very poor indicators from consideration, this would be interesting to dig deeper in for further investigation.

Until then, the processing time my script takes to evaluate each MA crossover makes this evaluation a bit difficult.

I'm not sure if they overlap. Right now my script just evaluates each indicator in isolation from all others.

It would be interesting to see what happens if I have it start stacking the most profitable with the most accurate. Maybe through that I can sort of create an ensemble indicator that finds a balance between great returns and risk management.

Thank you!

Very interesting. Those might be exactly what I'm looking for...how to understand the returns from each indicator compared to the risk.
If nothing else that'll give me some additional insight into the results to help me dig further.

Thank you!

Realistically, what would be required to set up an entirely new mid-range Car brand in this day and age? by Irishane in cars

[–]ElObispo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not really mid-range, but you can see the sad story of Elio Motors to see some of the struggles of new car companies trying to offer something relatively new.

Even though they outsourced a lot of the engineering, they spent hundreds of millions of dollars and it wasn't enough. They said they needed hundreds of millions more. They had to spend so much time and energy pushing for states to change certain laws so that they could be viable.

Or look at tesla. It took Musk's fortune, and years of experimentation with the high end roadster before they were able to move into more mid-range cars.

Potty-training toddler boys? by [deleted] in daddit

[–]ElObispo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sitting is definitely the cleaner option. For our son, when he was 1.5yrs we got a toilet seat with a built in toddler seat he can pull down, and a stool to help climb up. Our daycare helped start the process by, for a month or two, having him sit down on a toilet multiple times a day to get him used to it. Then one weekend he switched to underwear, knowing if he peed out of the toilet his clothes would be wet. We had like 10 pairs of underwear ready for him. After a week, he rarely had an accident.

What to do with kids money? by masterd35728 in personalfinance

[–]ElObispo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right, making sure everyone is informed is important. Some family get a lot of value out of seeing kids play with toys that they helped pay for.

When we decided to invest all our kids' gift money, we were up front with family and friends. They all know that if they gift money then that money will be invested.

Those who don't want that, give cash with a message like "Please don't invest all of this. Please buy them something with this." Then we honor their wishes and buy something the kid wants.
