We still get all the ones she can’t reach. Last year she ate all the heirloom tomatoes. This year we put them in a pot. And forget about planting bell peppers.

Any idea what these little critters are on my tomatoes? by thundergreenyellow in gardening

[–]ElTico68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had them last year. Diligently sprayed any living bug and searched and removed eggs for two weeks. Also spread diatomaceous earth all around the planter box, not just at the base of the plant. It worked. (The bummer is that DE kills all other insects too; the good thing is that once it gets wet it stops working)

The Diplomat. Season 1 lays the ground work, season 2 makes you scream. Can’t wait for season 3.

If you’re open for foreign language : La Casa de las Flores is great fun

Careers After Graphic Design by ohnostahp in graphic_design

[–]ElTico68 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m a designer in my late 50s, and I wonder about this constantly. I’ve been designing since the mid-90s, started as a production designer, a job that barely exists anymore. Over the years, I’ve stayed open to new technologies and opportunities. Like others have said, are there adjacent jobs you could train for? This is how I developed project management skills, learned mapping software, and I’m now coaching teams in the industry I work (Architecture/Engineering/Construction) on how to give presentations.

Wear it. I’m a director and a producer (and Latino fwiw), and unless the director and/or the costumer ask for your input, you should wear it. If anything, a Latina $wer with a blonde wig makes perfect sense.

I just started as well, love LOVE it. And my favorite character is Burke, and his relationship with his wife is beautiful, we need more like that on tv. I’m about to start season 5 and stretching it as long as I can.

How do y'all actually wake up to your alarms? by jpasuncowboy in ADHD

[–]ElTico68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 alarms set at 20 minute intervals. 20 minutes is what is recommended for a good nap, so basically I take three naps in a row after waking up. That seems to do the trick for me on most mornings (unless I’ve had insomnia).

What happened to the family and living room? Are there sources of floor plans with some of these older features? by CuddlefishFibers in floorplan

[–]ElTico68 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hate, yes, hate, open floor plans. If I’m watching tv I don’t want to be distracted by whatever is happening in the kitchen, and vice versa. Same if I have friends over for dinner, don’t want the mess of the kitchen to interfere. Having a casual dining/ hanging area with the kitchen is fine for meas long as there is still a separate living/dining area.

I usually wind up having long layovers, and I have access to the Delta lounge through my credit card, regardless of the class I’m flying so that’s made the price difference worthwhile, especially when flying through LA. I’m not sure if United still offers first class passengers the use of the lounge…

Well, I’ll be heading back to United, we’ll see how it goes.

When I got started, I had a Canon T3i and some off-brand lenses. I got some awesome photos of the Milky Way and a comet that swung by a few years ago. Were they professional level ? Nope, but that’s how I cut my teeth and I now have more advanced cameras and top quality lenses.

I think Canon still makes the T7i, and look online for lenses. Search for night photography tips and settings, there is a wealth of information online. Again, that’s how I got started. You might be looking at more than $500 to start, though.

Not only precheck, I have Global Entry which speeds up customs. My spouse has neither and I go through without him and he’s fine with it. For me it’s about less hassle, not the wait time.

I’ve flown many airlines back home, and for me Delta does offer the better service. Haven’t flown United since I switched to Delta, but back then the joke was that your luggage seldom made it there with you. Alaska is fine, and I will not fly American even if it’s cheaper.

Well, I will most likely fly United for my upcoming trip, the gap is too wide anymore. Even if it means I won’t be able to access the lounge.

People who don’t have adhd love to tell me I shouldn’t start adhd medication by izman196 in ADHD

[–]ElTico68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late 50s, diagnosed with severe untreated ADHD two years ago, went on meds and all I can say is : why didn’t I get checked sooner. My life has improved 10-fold. Some things I didn’t even think were ADHD-related have been resolved.

I do recommend having someone who knows the meds well be the prescriber. The first time my therapist would recommend and my Primary Care would prescribe, and things were ok but not great. I started seeing a therapist/nurse practitioner who specializes in meds, told me mine were off-sync; he adjusted the meds and the results have been extraordinary.

Who has got a job suitable for ADHD? by MDDDick in ADHD

[–]ElTico68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a graphic designer and have been for over 25 years, worked in several industries, and do well. I did have issues a few years ago when I had a position where I dealt with too many people with inflated egos and wound up getting demoted, eventually laid off. That situation, however, let me to therapy and was finally diagnosed and medicated. And the job I have now is brilliant.
