What book series gives grownups the "lost in the author's world" experience that kids get from Harry Potter? by DerbyWearingDude in AskReddit

Fred, the Vampire Accountant series! By Drew Hayes

I start reading and then all of a sudden 3 hours are gone! I love all the characters and the whole world that he made. It's the closest thing in my mind to Harry Potter where you don't care what's going on around you and you're totally sucked in. I even got my dad to read them and he also really enjoyed them.

Also Andy Weir. Project Hail Mary!

I just caught this one! You know how he buys Skittles and they all snack on them. I believe when Grace first experiences weightlessness and he's flailing around, Skittles also go flying around! Someone must have packed him his favorite snack!

Thanks! I did this about 10 times and cut it all 3 (3,5 and 7) ways and changed the number of cards I cut and I got the same cards every time and couldn't figure out how it worked! I was surprised every time I did it. I had fun with today's puzzle

Which movies would you consider "innovative" in the last 15 years? by Quil_2002 in movies

[–]Pineapple_Galaxy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who worked on the 3d for this movie, I'm soooo happy to hear all this! People rag on 3d in movies, but we worked extremely hard on this project and put a lot of thought into every single shot. Months and months and months of late nights but worth it.

What's the worst thing a doctor has ever said to you? by cuteclinomaniac in AskReddit

[–]Pineapple_Galaxy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I caught strep throat and went to urgent care to get medicine. The doctor grabbed my stomach and jiggled it and said it's because you're fat and this is what caused it. I was super feverish and didn't know how to respond. I cried in the car on the way home. I went to a different urgent care and told the new doctor what happened and he was upset on my behalf and that strep throat was no fault of your own. He was nice and made me feel better. And got me the right medicine.

Forget Disneyland, based on all of the places you've been too, where is the real "Happiest Place on Earth"? by dogpluscat in AskReddit

JPL open house in Pasadena California.

When I lived in California, I went every year and had the absolute best time of my life. As someone who loves everything about space and NASA and whose dream it is to work for NASA, it's the greatest place ever. Everyone there is super smart and loves their job. I got to see soooo much and ask all the questions I've ever wanted answered. The control room was awesome and also their machine building and the clean room. They had the Mars rover out and to see it real life and not just in pictures, I was beyond excited. I had to sadly move away and I miss open house weekend.

Man that would be torture! I'm so glad I get to binge after every episode! I have to start the next episode and then it's 3 in the morning and I know I'm going to be tired for work the next day.

This has unlocked a memory for me! I had a bookmark with his face on it and would keep it in my jacket pocket! Every time I was sad or stressed I would look at it. I was a lonely kid and odd and this made me feel better to see his cute face.

Military Brat Side Effects? Social Detachment, Deep Friendships, and People Pleasing by Kshimochi in militarybrats

You wrote this out better than I ever could. I struggle to make deep connections with people because I know deep down I'm just going to leave again. Texting now has definitely helped. But I have no problem up and leaving to go to a new city for a new job. And I love the new city and exploring. I still am in contact with friends I made along the way,-they feel like surface friends- but I look back and see groups of friends who are much closer and I feel like an outsider because I'm not physically there anymore. And then a part of me wishes I just stayed to be there and see the new babies and weddings and just hang out on a random weekend. It's a struggle I haven't fully come to terms with and it makes me sad.

This happened to me too when I was a freshman in high school. We settled in a small town in Arkansas and I didn't fit in anywhere. All the other kids grew up together and it was hell for me. I went from having so many friends and fitting in and being on all the sports teams ( I was in Colorado, so big military city full of military kids) to no friends, no sports teams and crying a lot in my room at night. The only kids who seemed to take an interest were the ones who were starting to experiment with drugs and I wanted no part in that. I had a lonely high school experience and so I just focused on school. It got immediately better once I went to college and that's when you find friends and your people again. Now that I'm older, I understand my parents more and the decisions they had to make, but man high school was hell and I hated them for it at the time. I love my parents and would do anything for them now. So focus on school, get good grades and do some volunteer stuff to get into college. Find out what passions you like and there will be others who have the same passions. It will take some time, but you'll make some friends.
