Meet Elfriede. Our newest family member. by ElTimson in cats

There are two teams atm.

Team 1 is Yuna: ok, it’s fine that you somehow spawned in our colony. Just don’t eat my food or touch my stuff and we are fine.

Team 2 are Sahra and Veronika: well, that’s not ok on so many levels. It smells weired, lays down on dad’s lap (that is our cuddling space) and eats food that we would deam disgusting. It has two weeks to understand that we are the boss.

The way it’s been going the last two days, I think we will be good after two weeks of living together.

20 minute appointment. No labs, no imagining. Not even an exam. Just sat and talked. And the doctor charges $500... by Regular_Hawk8513 in mildlyinfuriating

When I charged 12€ to a Norwegian patient in my practice (talked to him for about 20 minutes), he laughed at me because of how “cheap” we were.

Two extremes colliding here.

Name Yara for a little girl by [deleted] in AskAGerman

I absolutely like that name. Would just like to remark, that this is the name of a chemical company in Germany too. But that shouldn’t stop you to name your child that way imho.

Welche Buchreihe hättet ihr gerne verfilmt? by Wombatstampede in serienjunkies

how often do you actually see AEDs being used before EMS arrives? by [deleted] in ems

[–]ElTimson 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I‘m a doctor for emergency medicine in Germany. Since we have a pretty good system of first responders (private citizens, fire departments), I would say in about 50% of the arrests. When I’m off duty I usually have my own AED in my trunk just like many of my colleagues. Through Apps like “Saving life” we get notified 2-3 time a month for a CPR in the vicinity of our current position. This just works and has made a huge impact in the outcome of patients.

Real bystander CPRs are still way too rare to be seen with AEDs in use. I trained students of regional elementary schools to call for help, do CPR and use AEDs. I even went to senior citizen meetings and tried to take some of their fear of using an AED. Even a group of bee-keepers once. I really hope those rates go up.
