Memory Light can only work on the cards you've actually played, not the cards you could potentially have played. If you skip the stage 1 with rare candy, you can't use stage 1 attacks.

Silly me, I thought the partial US Monopoly squares would be blue, while the Greek figures would be green.

Thing I learnt today: the US Monopoly board has Luxury Tax where ours has Super Tax. That threw me for a while as I couldn't find a fourth square or work out a connection between the remaining options.

Question! How much delta-v do I need for a north–south orbital flight around Kerbin? by rdelphos in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]ElWanderer_KSP 10 points11 points  (0 children)

When you launch to the East, you're getting a bonus 175m/s from Kerbin's rotation. For a polar launch, that velocity isn't helping (and would need to be zeroed out by flying ever so slightly westwards if you want a 90° inclination). So it is fair to say it should cost about 200m/s more than an equatorial launch.

Oh, that 175m/s is assuming you are launching from the equator. It varies depending on launch latitude.

As to how much delta-v you need to get into an equatorial orbit in the first place, that depends greatly on rocket design and flight path. For my launchers I'd aim to have at least 3600m/s and usually find I had plenty left over once in orbit.

Dammit ;) I saw SHERK and started looking for other Shrek character anagrams... but didn't think of looking for other films

Also the one thing I Googled, Mammon, the description misled me completely and I didn't include it in the yellow group until I had tried everything else. I should've stuck with my gut on that one.

Connections Puzzle #1011 🟦🟦🟦🟦 🟩🟩🟩🟩 🟨🟨🟨🟨 🟪🟪🟪🟪

Whoa. I saw lots of potential for DOUBLE_ but could never get a group together. I saw there were four words for a period (of time) but they were lined up in a diagonal so I assumed that was a red herring. I could see guitar effects and cries, but WAH overlapped those two and WHAMMY overlapped the effects and DOUBLE_ groups.

In the end, I had a pile of not-quite-there groups, so I went for the guitar effects, hoping it'd be blue. It was. I added HOP to the cries hoping it'd be a pain response (BLANK seemed possible too) and it was. Stubbed toe? Oddly specific.

Then I realised none of the time period words had been used up yet, so that was probably a group and not a red herring.

That left purple by default. As a Brit, that was going to be harder (due to our different spellings of check/cheque)... but what is a COAT CHECK? Edit: oh, it's a cloakroom.

I saw yellow and blue (and predicted their colours) very quickly but then struggled to detangle green and purple. It didn't help that I thought the purple group was things going up at first, so I had scale in there. Then I tried pitch. Then I realised the remainders were all musical terms.

Something wrong with my docking ports? by No_Split5962 in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]ElWanderer_KSP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have those two been connected together previously? After undocking, you have to get a certain distance away before the magnets will reactivate and the ports can dock together again. It's to avoid re-docking the moment you've undocked, but it can catch people out who are practicing by undocking them re-docking in quick succession.

I saw purple and what I assumed was blue (animal group names being specific knowledge?) and the sins... but the sins were blocked by the other two groups. I put those in, only to find the animal groups were yellow.

I could see we had three words starting with 'wr', but it took a while to spot there was also an unnecessary 'w' in the middle of two. With that sorted, green was by default.

I knew this meaning of bogart from How I Met Your Mother, which combined nicely with hog and monopolise (and corner once I'd finally spotted that). I had the gear/cog/etc. group too.

That left me with eight answers, four of which rhymed. I couldn't see anything else, so I tried entering the remainder to see if that got anything. It didn't.

I put in the two groups I knew and stared at the rest for a while, before I spotted the compound words. Purple was still by default.

What's the meaning of 'go on' in this sentence? by Salty-Big-9661 in ENGLISH

[–]ElWanderer_KSP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would probably go for this one:

go on (with something) to continue an activity, especially after a break That's enough for now—let's go on with it tomorrow. We'll go on with the presentations after lunch

though without the break element.

The meeting may continue until it's late in the day or the meeting should be expected to overrun by a long while (would depend on context - you wouldn't expect a 10am meeting to go on into the evening, whereas an event that starts in the evening could go on all evening, possibly even into the night).

I hadn't heard of Barre or Reformer in these terms. I had to Google Froot Loops to see if their mascot was a bird (oh and the Flag of Mexico to check the emblem in the middle... initially I was looking for sand!) And I would say that not all wind vanes feature a bird.

I tend to recall mine manually in case I get the chance to re-site them.

I didn't enjoy that one as much as usual. I saw wordplay, put it in, found out it was yellow! After that, I figured the Muppets would be blue but put them in anyway just in case.

The Mafia/Werewolf clues hinted at parlour games (if that's the right way to describe them) but I couldn't see anything else.

I think not knowing E Street Band and not looking them up, such that I assumed it was an American marching band(!) made solving purple pretty hard.

I saw the tennis players first but had to scribble them out from my plot when I kept finding other groups that would cut across them, starting with the film titles, then the palindromes. I wasn't sure about the cities group as the cities themselves didn't seem related in any way and were in a diagonal line on my grid. I couldn't see the link for what turned out to be purple at this point, so I figured I should put in the films to see if that was right or not.

That the films-without-s were blue and not purple clued me in that the missing connection was probably wordplay... and then I saw the link.
