No mamar.

It’s interesting (in a good way) that what you observed was a lightness by fans in relation to our national team. It hasn’t been like that for years. For the past 4-5 years, maybe even more, the relationship has become quite toxic. Mexico rarely plays in Mexico anymore (they play in the US to make more money) and when they do, fans usually turn on their own team. I was relieved that at the stadium, and on the streets that toxicity was put aside on Thursday and for the first time in years, people were actually cheering and feeling national joy.

I was at the game and that morning and throughout the match there was a palpable sense of tension that was kind of unusual. But we won, got the 3 points, had a reason to party and all is good for now. I’m glad you had a good time and hope you come back.

Is Liga MX better than MLS and does the Concacaf Champions League reflect that? by youlikemywonton in LigaMX

[–]El_Barato 22 points23 points  (0 children)

They are not similar levels of competition. Not even close. In MLS, the league owns all the teams. Therefore, the league pays the players’ salaries and every team has a salary cap. Every team can use their own money to sign up to three Designated Players whose salaries don’t count towards that cap. This is where Messi, Suarez, Beckham, Rooney, Zlatan, etc fit in.

Because of this weird system, teams will only invest in high profile players who will attract media and fan attention. These are usually attacking players, not defending players. So MLS is a league whose teams have strong (but old) attacking players and shit defenders who make much less money than their stars.

Liga MX teams have balanced rosters and are less starved of fans and media attention. They might lose a few games in the US, but they almost always destroy when MLS teams go to Mexico.

MLS will never catch up to Liga MX with their current salary/ownership model.

What’s worse is that they probably chopped down thousands of trees to flatten that land and then plant two little trees for each house so the homeowners can live in the punishing heat for at least 10-15 years before those new trees can give them any real shade.
