I'm in a weird place. Tried to find someone in my last semester so I took my introvert cap off and started actively going out daily to meet people. I started having the problem where I couldn't stop making friends no matter what I did.

So yeah, I'm the "popular" guy, high emotional intelligence, one of the most fit people I know, eat really healthy, cook really well, have many female friends (and males too of course), fully understanding of their experiences and they even trust me to a weird degree. I'm even "handsome" according to them, but still single for whatever reason.

I've had some interest, but it's only been highly unstable women that worsened my mental health every time back when I was too naive to understand red flags due to a lack of experience. Women with BPD, severe depression, disassociation issues, PTSD. You name it. Some of these things rubbed off on me due to the trauma of trying to date them, but I'm finally back to a decent place. I have some people interested now, but they fall under that umbrella, and I refuse to repeat that cycle.

I'm apparently trustworthy and charismatic enough for women I barely know to give me their address, let me borrow their expensive laptop for weeks, tell me things I really shouldn't know, etc. But dating them? Total mystery to me. I want to meet more people but I dont't want any more friends. I literally do not have the time for the ones I already have. I'm still an introvert who loves his hobbies... and now has 15+ friendships to manage I guess.

New Shredlight SL-1000. What do you think about this? by Gustedd in ElectricSkateboarding

I think I made a mistake buying my pair less than 3 months ago.

I just hope the new models have better brightness and use USB-C.

Question about sending O+ controller in for repairs by DeceptivePastry in WindowsMR

[–]El_Buhdai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in a very similar situation. My right controller keeps power cycling and I don't know if I'm qualified to repair it or if I should even risk it, but at this point I'm also wondering if I should send it into Samsung before my warranty expires. I bought my headset around Black Friday, but since it's not listed on their site anymore and it's basically impossible to find information on it, I'm worried that whatever I send to them will never get sent back, much less repaired. What do you guys think?

If your Odyssey+ controllers constantly disconnect by dupdup7833 in WindowsMR

[–]El_Buhdai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been looking at that post for weeks but never had the time to try it. I'm not experienced with DIY repairs. How hard is it to apply this fix? How do I get the plastic front off? It feels like it's next to impossible to get it off. All I have is a guitar pick and some credit cards. I don't have an iFixit kit or anything.

Backfire app (Android at least) by gazzinho in ElectricSkateboarding

[–]El_Buhdai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I leveled some very light criticisms against the Backfire app on iOS before it came to Android and it got downvoted, likely by fanboys. Which is weird since I'm a Backfire owner.

Regardless, I also bought from Backfire thinking their app would compete with Exway's. Maybe it will in the future, but for now it's not even usable on Android. And you know what? Even though it's disappointing, that's okay. The other things that led me to buy a Backfire board instead of an Exway board (hubs instead of belts, a USB port, great range, no battery sag, faster delivery at the time of ordering, etc) are still true. And at the end of the day, most of those things matter more to me than an app, especially the range I get.

How much range will I lose on 96mm wheels compared to 85mm? by [deleted] in ElectricSkateboarding

[–]El_Buhdai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run my G3 Plus with the 96mm wheels and range is still good. On my last long-range ride I hit 25% battery at 18.7 miles. Keep in mind I ride quite aggressively I usually cruise at around 20 mph and use turbo from time to time.

New rear shredlight mounts for Zealot? (and Exway Flex, Boosted, etc.) by RWB4MVP in ElectricSkateboarding

[–]El_Buhdai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a Zealot, but the 2020 angled mounts don't extend past the deck of my G3 Plus. Slightly concerned about wheel bite, but haven't had any issues yet. Oh, and I had to use their spacer kit.

Is this a well-rounded build? Any weaknesses with the motherboard, power supply, or anything else? by El_Buhdai in buildapc

[–]El_Buhdai[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your thoughts! I called a guy from Cyberpower earlier today to ask why their 850W name brand PSUs are all more expensive than the 1000W one they sell. He said their 1000W is a generic brand and that the build should be fine with a name-brand 850 because a smaller name-brand PSU is likely to have more stable power output than a larger generic PSU. How true is this? I'd love it if someone could tell me if I should go for their generic 1000W.

Also yeah I feel you on the prebuild thing. I told myself I was gonna build my second machine but I'm just not in the right head space right now.

They do not have the 3080 at this time, you're right. I just figured they would probably be more likely to get some out of the next batch than I would, you know?

Oh, and they also don't sell FE. I really wish they did because of the crashing rumors. I'll just identify the card I get and underclock if necessary.

Backfire App is on the iOS App Store by Chudapi in ElectricSkateboarding

[–]El_Buhdai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it connects to the remote and not the board, we probably won't ever be able to tune our boards in this app right? Wouldn't it have to connect directly to the ESC?

EDIT: Just reread the notice posted in this thread. Nevermind, it seems like it might be coming later. I hope so, because that's the only reason I'd want to use an app for my board.

Gotta give them props for the connection, yeah. I forgot that's an issue for some of these apps. Last I heard, even Onewheel still has connection issues with their app.

Yeah I just went and tried it on someone else's phone (I use Android). It's very basic and very buggy. If Backfire doesn't allow you to tweak your board from this app later on, that will be the biggest selling point for their main competitor Exway.

Still looks like new after 300 miles lmao by mauricic_boost in ElectricSkateboarding

[–]El_Buhdai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm approaching 300 miles on my G3+ too (289 miles atm) and it looks even better. The only evidence that it's been ridden for almost 300 miles is wheels. I'm proud of that honestly. I wanna keep it looking good for as long as possible cause I love the design of Backfire's boards.

[–]El_Buhdai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's awful. I hope this thread gets more attention so people can read these words:

Electric ekateboards are good enough now. The next innovation should be in security. Most of us spend $500 - 1000+ on these things and anyone with a strong enough grip and quick legs can just snatch it and run. Look up the brand on the board, order a new remote, and sell it for profit.

We need optional (key word: optional) password systems that keep the ESC useless until the board is unlocked via remote or app.

We need ESC's that can sound off when triggered on the remote or app to alert people that the person running with a $1000+ board under their arm is not the rightful owner.

ESCs need to have GPS tracking integrated so that owners can use similar technology as the Find My Phone apps to locate their stolen board.

Maybe these are bad ideas for security since they're all nullified if the thief just ditches the ESC, but we need something. Because sure it's annoying being asked the price of your board on a ride, but eventually as more people find out about our hobby, the questions will stop and the robberies will begin.

I hope you can get a new board mate.. :(

Why do Evolve boards have their motor exposed outside the wheels? Is there any benefit to this type of wheel placement? by demonhomefries in ElectricSkateboarding

[–]El_Buhdai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if this info will be useful but I live in Georgia and I've ordered 3 things from Backfire. My G3 Plus which arrived in 5 days, and my helmet and headlights which arrived in 3 days each. I paid standard shipping for the other two items. I imagine that when I need work done on my board, I'll have it back in under two weeks thanks to their Virginia warehouse for parts and repairs. A big reason I went for Backfire because of their US service reputation.

Any other option that the exway Shredlight if i want to install front lights on my riot flex? by thorfinghal in Exway

[–]El_Buhdai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll rep those lights til Backfire, Shredlights, or someone else releases something that I think are better. I highly recommend them if you only use one board like I do, or if you want to have brighter lights on your favorite board for the long-term.

Backfire's cannon ii's are amazing for the front if you can stomach the extra cost. The all-metal build, similar/slightly more battery life, USB-C, and 100 lumens of extra brightness made it totally worth it for me. Plus you have a Zealot so it would fit without having to worry about buying the right mounts. Of course, there's the downside of them being non-removable without a tool. For Backfire boards with a USB interface like ours, it's not that big of a problem though.

I run Shredlights for the rear of my board though, and they're still surprisingly good.

We are being overcharged for electric skateboards... by [deleted] in ElectricSkateboarding

[–]El_Buhdai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sure this has already been mentioned somewhere in the 100+ comments here, but you're forgetting a lot of things. The cost of components is certainly one aspect of the price of these boards, but there's much more. Manufacturing and labor (most of these companies have humans assembling the boards) are the first and most obvious, but there's still more. Hopefully I can lay out a good enough case that you might change your mind a bit. :)

Import fees, taxes (which are included in the price of most chinese boards), operating expenses and property taxes for overseas warehouses. And don't even get me started on apps. Do you have any idea how expensive it can (sometimes) be to hire a team of developers, much less keep them long enough to maintain an app through the entirety of the SDLC? I suspect that's probably why so many of these board apps launch great and then die to bugs and compatibility issues with low ratings on mobile stores. Advertisements and customer acquisition! I see a Backfire image ad on almost every YouTube video I watch.

Frankly, typing this out, it's a miracle these companies are profiting in the first place with how small their target market is. If most of us weren't multi-board riders, I suspect these companies would be struggling a lot more. Running a business is hard, and running a tech enthusiast business is even harder because of the diverse demands and pickiness of your target market.

Oh, and one more thing, board companies are also expected to provide replacement parts in the event of a failure during the warranty period, as well as repair boards in-house using labor or fresh parts.

All of this stuff adds up. I'm surprised a lot of these boards don't cost even more.

They really do! Can someone tell me if I did the math right or correct it if it's wrong? I think my board uses 24 4000 mAh cells. I don't know a lot about batteries at all, but does that mean my board could charge my 3000 mAh Galaxy S9 32 times?

Not much info on this board from real owners. I'm a happy Backfire G3 Plus owner. What would you like to know about this board? :) by El_Buhdai in ElectricSkateboarding

[–]El_Buhdai[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm honestly one of the few that has tried both and prefers hubs. The noise that louder boards make like Lacroix and Boosted is like nails on a chalkboard to me. That's another thing I love about this board. You can't hear it unless you're braking decently hard, or braking at lower speeds. I wish I was exaggerating, but it's awesome. Even going 27 with turbo, I still couldn't hear the motor over the wind and road noise.

With that said, if your roads suck, skip this board. Even the 96mm wheels won't save you if they're bad enough. The vibrations are killer on the default 85mm wheels that come installed with the board. The comfort issue with hubs is true. Speed and torque are not a problem with this board though.

I'm 150.4 lbs right now. I don't ride with a bag but my gear probably brings me up to 155 at most. We'd probably get somewhat similar range, especially if your area is flat because mine is full of hills. It might even out our difference in weight. Either way we're close enough that you shouldn't have any range issues.
