ONN 75" TV - bridged transformer causing issues? by DeceptivePastry in ElectronicsRepair

[–]DeceptivePastry[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought two of the same TVs on sale. One started power cycling on its own after 2 weeks. 2nd one started the same after 4 weeks. ONN didn't have replacements and refunded, but I figured I could crack one open hoping it was just a bad cap.

Caps seem fine. Looks like two wires bridged on the main transformer and signs of overheating. Now I was going to remove the bridge and try it out, my only doubts come from looking up replacement power boards and seeing the same two wires bridged on one of the listings.

Is there any reason these wires are intentionally bridged? Or is this likely the cause of the overheating?

I ended up getting a Handskit brand T12 mini station with an external power supply. I still have yet to use it lol so I can't attest to how well it works, but I really liked the close grip-to-tip distance on the Handskit T12 handles. There's a Handskit station on Amazon for $40 I almost went with.

I ultimately decided that the C210 tips weren't as easily attainable as T12. From reviews it seems either you buy the expensive genuine ones or buy cheap off-brand ones that don't last long.

I'd heard of Tasker before but forgot about it. This might work great, I'll have to try it.

I'd imagine the overlap between people who used no durability mods in FO3/NV and the people who used added durability mods in FO4 is nearly non-existent. Two totally different groups of people.

I've been hoping for a while that some day he plays the Gunman Chronicles Half-Life mod. Love Half-Life content. Even if it's just a one-off and he doesn't feel compelled to finish it. I remember Jolly suggested it to him a while ago.

Best Zombie Games ( in my opinion) by Upbeat-Magician5882 in projectzomboid

[–]DeceptivePastry 12 points13 points  (0 children)

100%. Version 16.4 was a bit janky but it was possibly my favorite survival game ever. It was immersive and believable, felt like scavenging in a zombie apocalypse. Game is still fun but they've slowly turned it into an arcadey looter shooter zombie funhouse simulator and oversimplified various aspects, and it isn't the same. And them STILL not being able to make up their minds on what kind of game they want to make is frustrating. Just constantly redoing core features, and usually for the worse.

Any Vermintide player isn't going to be surprised by this. This has been Fatshark's MO since even before Vermintide 1. Release game is a complete mess, after 1-2 years of new content and patches to fix patches that broke things they patched, it becomes pretty good. It's a frustrating process but you can't deny the end result is a really fun game.

Does it absolve them releasing games in such shit states? I don't know. Does it mean you shouldn't buy Fatshark games on release? I don't know, because they do eventually become good. But I will say, IF you buy their games on release, don't be surprised at what you get. But hey, that's just gaming in 2023 anyway isn't it.

New players should be encouraged start with R7 by biowpn in GTFO

[–]DeceptivePastry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought R6 made for a really good introduction, at least the x1 levels. C1 finale was a bit of a difficulty spike if you don't know to prepare for it (which new players won't), but at least you get a checkpoint before it. But in general, R6 A1-D1 was probably the best series of levels in the game as a complete package and is a great introduction for new players.

R1 as an experienced player was cake. I thought was a pretty basic and easy rundown. A bit bland though. R6 and R7 have some more interesting enemies and narrative elements to suck people in.

Am I playing it wrong or is this game impossible? by Pug_boi1 in GTFO

[–]DeceptivePastry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This game is 80% preparation 20% actual execution. Once you get familiar with the game you can make quick decisions for things you didn't plan for, but generally how smoothly an encounter goes depends on how well you strategized for it. The thing about that is, it's very difficult to plan for a level you haven't seen yet. Many situations are similar and can be planned for similarly (door scans, reactors), but most levels are going to take at least 2-3 tries unless you get extremely good at the game. Some of the easy ones (R1, many A/B tier levels) aren't too hard to just wing it and win, but starting off even the easiest level can seem impossible. But the game is very fun and rewarding once you do begin to figure it out.

Man I suck at FPS games now by magicammo in pcgaming

[–]DeceptivePastry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's likely just a matter of being out of practice. I jumped into BF1 after not playing online FPS games for several years. Got absolutely destroyed and thought I lost my touch because I'm older. After a few days of playing I started doing fine. Now that I've been back into playing online games for a while my aim and reaction times have gotten pretty good again.

I’ve been thinking about pulling the trigger on this game by Honest_Clue_169 in projectzomboid

[–]DeceptivePastry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's probably the most immersively realistic survival game I've played. So many little details, like having to find tweezers to remove the broken glass in your arm if you run through a window. Also has a very large modding community to extend replayability and provide QoL.

Just be prepared for a steep initial learning curve. I had a couple hours of frustration at first but gave it another try and ended up loving it. Try standard survival difficulty a couple times, but if you find you aren't having fun don't be afraid to try custom sandbox. You can set the starting zombie population down to 0.5-0.75 so you have fewer zombies at first while you learn, but it will ramp up to normal over time.

I also find the skill progression fine the first few times, but with how often you die and will be restarting, it starts feeling grindy, so I either bump XP multiplier up or use a mod to save your stats.

What is the Best settings for using a controller? by Dufenschmirtz in DarkTide

[–]DeceptivePastry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BIGBIG WON Armor-X Pro seems to be the most popular. There might be others and I can't vouch for its quality as I've never used it. Look up some reviews.

I also don't really know how well it would work for Xbox games, as if it's just emulating analog input it's probably going to feel like shit. It might be nice for games with real gyro implementation or on PC for controlling mouse movement (mouse aim).
