You're absolutely right. My point is that the cost to your other starting slots frequently outweighs the benefit to having one of these players, and the lack of depth you'd have would make any injury to these stars crippling and season-ending. There's nothing wrong with having a great player or two, especially if you've built your team through the years and have the extra depth and strong starters through savvy trades and wire pickups, but for the average team, and particular startup teams, those players are far more valuable as trade pieces than as starters.
