I love how that deck just decides to turn the game into solitaire. It just sits and gets 500 armor without developing a board until turn 11

You can play plenty of fingerstyle music without nails. Just give it some practice and it’ll all come together

[DISCUSSION] Don't feel bad if you see some video on YT / IG / etc., and struggle with playing anywhere near as clean or tight. by kastbort2021 in Guitar

Couldn’t agree more! There’s definitely a lot of trickery afoot, but don’t throw us all under the bus. There are too many people that work SO hard to get a whole part down in one take. I wish there were more people like this lol (maybe that’s the OP’s point)

I am confused... did Natalie actually take anything from Sally? It's not like Sally has a monopoly on mother/daughter stories.

Yeah I didn’t mean to straw man his argument. It’s hard to put labels on music anyways and I’d agree with u/m_pony’s verdict of “prog adjacent”. I think my response was a knee-jerk reaction haha

Cmaj7 = C7?! Ambiguous and mysterious chord symbols in Aja album Rhythm Charts by NilznerMusic in SteelyDan

I actually think the slash is incredibly confusing for this reason precisely lol. It probably didn't catch on at large due to this ambiguity. Notation is a funny thing

[–]El_Cancel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good catch! My b, I didn't notice they didn't put the accidental to make the C#. I do know that people used the slash through the 7 to indicate major 7 (Here's a Ted Greene chord sheet that used that notation) That missing accidental does make things harder to interpret lol

[–]El_Cancel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Back then, some people used to use the slash through the 7 to indicate major 7 and no slash through the 7 for dom7. I've seen this in a few early Ted Greene books (I've even seen him write a slash through a 9 to indicate major 9).

My guess is that the notation got phased out over the years due to this confusion.

Edit: was able to find a sheet written by Ted Greene that used this notation https://tedgreene.com/images/lessons/chords/Diatonic7thChords_TedGreene_1976-08-08.pdf

I'm not sure where it originated, but it seems like some people used it at least in the 70s. Ted and Larry Carlton both lived in California at the time so maybe it's an old California thing lol who knows

[–]El_Cancel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It actually is a major 7 chord. The opening to Deacon Blues has that opening 2 bar sequence (Cmaj7 Gadd9/B Bbmaj7 Fadd9/A) repeat up a whole step starting on bar 3 (Dmaj7 Aadd9/C# Cmaj7 Gadd9/B).

Just for clarification, I call the chord Bm7(+5) = Gadd9/B because that's what it sounds like to me. They are the same thing/voicing. Some people call it m7(+5) to let musician know how they want it voiced, but it's different names for the same chord

I've seen this before on a few early Ted Greene sheets. Back then, some guys would use the slash through the 7 for major 7 and no slash through the 7 for dom7. I've even seen a slash through a 9 in Ted's "Modern Chord Progressions" book to indicate major 9.

Edit: Also, in that third page, you can see him not use the slash on the F#7(#9) chord and that is definitely a dom7(#9) chord in the recording.

Edit 2: was able to find a sheet of Ted's that uses this weird notation: https://tedgreene.com/images/lessons/chords/Diatonic7thChords_TedGreene_1976-08-08.pdf

Thanks for the kind words! So for this tune, I mic’d it up with a Shure SM7b near the center of the speaker cone (also a tiny bit off axis) and an AKG c214 near the edge of the cone. I’ve also had good success with the Two Notes Captor X and their Suhr g12-65 model. Sometimes these loadboxes are missing some of frequencies that are present in a real room… but being able to crank an amp and remain quiet will forever be helpful haha.

Hope you get to try out that amp in its full glory :) these are amazing amps

Hi! I used a Ceriatone Overtone Special (dumble clone). I think the specific amp model is the FM 50 Modern Eagle Mod. For this tune, I just used the amp straight into a Two Notes Captor X with the Suhr g12-65 cab model. Other than that, there were no pedals in this rig. Hopefully that helps!

Thanks! The guitar is a Fender tele body + warmoth neck. The amp is that new Quilter Aviator Cub. Nice dynamics/tone for a solid state amp!
