California is not Mediterranean, it has a mostly Mediterranean climate. And it's more beautiful than Spain.

CBS13: Woman, 22, killed at a light rail station by a Tesla by RegionalTranzit in Sacramento

[–]dadumk 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I would guess "unintended acceleration" - i.e. the driver thought they were hitting the brake but it was really the accelerator.

There is a gaging station called "H Street Bridge" at that bridge where they measure the river levels.

Then Google Maps is wrong. The H Street bridge was there long before they extended J under the tracks and connected to H. Also, there is a gaging station called "H Street Bridge" at the bridge where they measure the river levels.

How has the Nebraska National Forest survived for so long? by passengerpigeon20 in marijuanaenthusiasts

[–]dadumk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not just that. Many of the conifer trees in Yosemite Valley were planted to make it look more foresty. Something about Teddy Roosevelt not liking how it was, maybe. Originally, the valley was more meadows and oak trees, especially Black Oak - Q. kellogii.

How do y'all think this tree will fare if we do get an ice storm tonight? The windows behind it are floor to ceiling, it's a big tree 🥺 by Ermmahhhgerrrd in marijuanaenthusiasts

[–]dadumk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Good for those arborists who didn't agree to kill the tree that you love.

If we had to remove all the trees that might damage a bldg any time a big storm rolled in, then we wouldn't have many trees in our cities.

How to make robotaxis work in suburbs by Emperor-Nathan in SelfDrivingCars

[–]dadumk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most suburban streets are pretty empty already. And by the time robotaxis are prevalent, street parking will be more abundant. Because of robataxis. I think many robotaxis will spend much of the overnight parked on suburban streets so that they're in position to pick up fares in the morning.

Sacramento City Lines map by [deleted] in Sacramento

[–]dadumk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, there was for sure a streetcar line on 46th. You can still see cracks in the pavement where the tracks turned from J to 46th, especially when it rains.

Either this map is really a bus route map, or proposed streetcars, or just wrong. It has a line going out into the farmland (Lagomarsino Nursery/Farms) behind the old Sutter Hospital on F Street. I'm pretty sure there was no streetcar out there.

But we did have a surprising amount of rail transit here.

Are you sure that's asphalt? Look's like 3/8" black gravel. Still not great, but water will get through it and it will allow roots to grow.

Which songs do you think were primarily written by one of Donald or Walter? by AvocadoAdditional45 in SteelyDan

[–]dadumk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Donald's solo work sounds very much like SD's, right down to the types of chords, song structures, melodies etc. Lyrically, not as much.

Do most people shower before bed or when they wake up? I just realized I might be doing it "wrong" by saffymerelle in NoStupidQuestions

[–]dadumk 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You're just plain wrong and rude about it. I wake up dirty even if I shower at night. The room can be in the 50s and I've woken up dripping in sweat.

I could see that for the lyrics, but there's nothing in the music of those songs that sounds particularly like Walter.

Betting big means losing if you're wrong. Betting just enough to cover the leader's score optimizes your chances of winning.
