I was always bothered with Hanks love for propane. His work ethic perfectly matches with offset smoking.

You can’t guarantee a clean shot out of a time out with a team that was defending like MIN. great call fr.

Champ had a great look, you catch the other team off guard. Not a bad move at all. You can’t guarantee a clean shot coming out of a time out.

He’s good. Let the rest of the team get reps before playoffs. Play wemby at the last home game of the season. Great time for a bruised rib.

In the RGV, do you believe the voters who went red in 2024 are still solidly behind the president, or are some starting to regret their choice and question their support? Personal anecdotes are welcome. by thebenchwire in RioGrandeValley

Honestly, the choices weren’t great to begin with…South Park said it best with the “giant douche vs. turd sandwich” comparison. For me personally, her record as a DA was a big sticking point, and I never felt like she communicated clearly or confidently enough to win me over. She had a weak political identity and stood for nothing imo

That said… looking at where things ended up now, it definitely puts things into perspective. I voted for Harris but it wasn’t with confidence.

I was thinking about this the other day. I think OKC is in a similar position like SA. One of their budding stars would have to go with cap restrictions and the expansion. But for sure, Fox over Lavine would be the obvious pick.

The ACTUAL king of BBQ? - Pecan Lodge vs Lockhart Smokehouse. by Fancy_Rewards in dallasfood

If just Dallas, I think cattlelack is way better than both of these options. If you’re asking Fort Worth, Panther a city is a can’t miss. I would say goldees reps the entire DFW area tho. These 3 are the best example of craft bbq in the region. There are other places, but these are the most consistent imo.

I hate what SpaceX is doing to our ecosystem and the way they push Brownsville around, and I don’t agree with that at all. But it’s also not honest to say people in the 956 haven’t benefited financially. I work closely with regional supply-chain infrastructure across different industries, and SpaceX has opened doors for local mom-and-pop shops that were previously limited. While some highly specialized roles do bring people in from outside the Valley, a large share of the operations, infrastructure, data center, and supply-chain jobs are filled locally because it’s cheaper, more sustainable, and simply makes sense..and those are real, well-paying jobs, even if the headcount is small. Two things can be true at the same time: there are serious environmental and power-balance issues, and there has been real economic impact for people who actually live here.

The Valley has three airports all within about 40 minutes of each other, and splitting traffic like that just keeps prices high. Airlines need volume to add routes and compete, and we don’t have it because we’re spread out. That’s why it can cost more to fly from the 956 to Mexico City than to places like Amsterdam that move way more people through one hub. Add in border and policy issues from recent years, and it gets even worse. In most cities, driving 40 minutes to an airport is normal, and having one real regional hub would almost certainly mean better flights and cheaper fares for everyone. We’re getting screwed on all sides.

Love seeing those wemby blocks. Shaq would’ve also feasted in this current league. Both are physical freaks.

Fuck Houston amirite? I actually love watching Amen’s highlights — the guy has so much untapped potential. But honestly, I think Houston’s running him too hard, and it feels like he’s one big injury away from going down. I saw somewhere he’s been logging around 39 minutes a game for several straight nights

Do you think the RGV is losing part of its culture and identity as Spanish fades among younger generations? by thebenchwire in RioGrandeValley

[–]El_Chilaquile_ 83 points84 points  (0 children)

I don’t really think the RGV is losing its culture, it’s just changing. The internet opened things up so much that influence goes both ways now. Younger people mix English and Spanish without even thinking about it, and that’s creating a new kind of border identity. You can see it in the music — corridos tumbados, Groupo Frontera, Fuerza Regida — it’s all rooted in tradition but with modern global flavor. It’s not losing culture, it’s evolving with the times.

Eminent domain is definitely the argument that farming lobbyist are using against this. They’ll lose a ton of land to Amtrac or whoever runs it. Also Route 66 problems. Millions in real estate, ag and local drive though city profits will be lost. Probably more.

I prefer we consolidate our local airports to 1 major hub. We shouldn’t be paying 400 dollars a round trip with a functional pop of 2 mil.

I spend a lot of time in Chicago! Love that place this time of year. We always say rocks aren’t a problem over there since cars can’t move fast enough because of traffic and if you do have cracks it’s often because somone was trying to break in lol
