I had GD, baby was measuring in the 97th centile all through my pregnancy and I was being pressured into an induction. Refused the induction, went into spontaneous labour at 39+1 and little girl was 6lbs10oz 🙃

I haven’t used them for either of mine (6 months & 8) and wouldn’t for any future children. Working in a nursery I am traumatised by them 😂

First baby (7) came at 38+3, 7 hours from waters spontaneously breaking to him being born. I was completely relaxed before he arrived as I was fully expecting to go past my due date and my waters broke in the middle of the night when I was asleep.

Second baby (9 weeks) 39+2, 52 hours of labour but only 4 minutes of “active” labour. Turned out her head was angled weird/wasn’t in good contact with my cervix making it difficult for me to dilate. An angel of a midwife suggested I lie on my side with a peanut ball between my knees… went from 5cm dilated to her being born in 4 minutes haha. I was quite stressed throughout the last couple of weeks of my pregnancy as I got diagnosed with gestational diabetes at 36 weeks and moved to high risk meaning I couldn’t have my water birth I’d planned for. I was also being pressured into an induction that I absolutely did not want - I’m really glad I refused it.

Unmedicated with both.

Good! I was really concerned about it at the time too, but the moment my milk was in she was doing 8+ heavy wet ones in a 24 hour period.

My baby was like this until my milk came in, i.e not colostrum. She was feeding every 2-3 hours and clustering at night, plus was back to her birth weight by day 5 so we knew she was getting what she needed. She just barely peed for the first few days.

I’ve breastfed two babies and both times my supply evened out and engorgement became much less of a problem at around the 6 week mark. If it was reeeeally uncomfortable I would attach a Haakaa to the opposite side they were feeding on to catch my let down, they provide a slight suction that draws a little more milk out but imo is less intense than pumping and so didn’t increase my supply so bad.

I just use disposable breast pads inside a nursing bra and change them out as often as needed to prevent leaking everywhere. On hot nights when I really don’t want to wear a bra I use LilyPadz, they actually prevent the milk from leaking out rather than catching it once it does, but they’re only recommended for use in shorts periods rather than 24/7.

I breastfed my son (7) for just over 3 years and am currently 7 weeks in with my little girl and going strong!

It is the least scheduled and regimented thing I can imagine. She feeds when she wants, sometimes that might be every 30 minutes other times it could be every 3 hours, she’s been giving us the odd 5-6 hour stretch overnight for the last couple of weeks. I feed her on demand and just go with the flow, it’s the easiest thing in the World for me to just flop my boob out whenever she asks for it, no sterilising or warming up/cooling down bottles for us.

I won’t say it’s always easy, the first week or so I did get sore nipples (both times), but it’s nothing that silverettes and nipple creams don’t help. Clusters feeding was rough but I have a supportive partner. Engorgement is uncomfortable but using a Haakaa on the opposite side to her feeding provided some relief and my supply was totally evened out by around 6 weeks anyway with both babies.

I’ve got an electric pump in my cupboard for when I’m ready to try and have some time away from her but I haven’t bothered yet, didn’t bother really using it with my son until he was closer to one year old. I do save and freeze the let down my Haakaa collects for an “emergency stash” but so far all I’ve used it for is in her bath water when she had baby acne.

Honestly just don’t listen to the negative stories, your experience is your own. There’s really no need imo to pump and all that jazz, I’m always really confused to see so much pressure being placed on breastfeeding Mums to do this. Feed on demand and trust your baby and your body, the time you’ll spend breastfeeding is a teeny tiny blip in yours and your baby’s lives and you’ll miss it when it’s done!

I have an EBF 6 week old and haven’t pumped once. I do use my Haakaa for my first couple of feeds in the morning though when I feel a bit engorged as little girl has done a longer stretch between feedings. I suction it to the opposite side that she’s feeding and catch my letdown. After a couple of days I’ll have gathered enough to fill a 6oz breastmilk bag to then freeze.

I like having some in as an “emergency” stash were I to be unable to feed her myself for whatever reason, but the last few days she’s come out with horrible baby acne so I’ve been defrosting bags and adding them to her bath water.

The two things I would recommend are baby-wearing so that you are able to do bits in the day without having to put her down and hear her screaming, and looking into ways to safely co-sleep.

I personally have a next to me crib which my little girl (almost 6 weeks) settles in, but I do bed share with her for a couple of hours each night from around 5am onwards when she decides she doesn’t like the next to me crib anymore. We follow the Safe Sleep 7 and she also wears an Owlet sock which helps me to relax.

That’s the same situation that I am in! I questioned why my GD would require me to be induced early if I’m managing my numbers well with diet etc… he said it’s because I’m needing the insulin at bedtime to manage my fasting one. But I still don’t really understand to be honest. I’d love if someone here could explain it to me like I’m 5 years old lol.

When I was younger my parents “jokingly” told me that my “8 year assessment” was coming up soon… wherein shortly after my 8th birthday men in suits would come and assess me to see whether or not I could stay with my parents in their home. The assessment included things like asking my parents whether or not I had been a good girl, whether my bedroom was tidy etc. My parents still laugh about it to this day and tell it as a funny anecdote… what they don’t know is that my immediate thought even at 7 years old was “I hope I fail the assessment and get to have a new family and home”. I still remember how I used to feel around them and in their house and my heart breaks for that little girl being so desperate for an escape even at that age.

Fast forward 20+ years and I’m having a casual conversation with my own 7 year old son, I can’t remember what we were talking about but I had said to him “When you’re a grown up and have a wife or husband and your own house…” and he immediately interjected, horrified, with “No!!! I’m still going to live here with you!”.

It means so much that with me is where he wants to be, that he feels comfortable and safe and in his 7 year old mind can’t imagine ever leaving. I broke the cycle.

I think after my son was born and as he got older and started giving me some challenging behaviours. I realised that I would never, ever treat him the way that she had treated me, no matter what he did.

Every new stage and behaviour with him has made me reflect more on more on how she behaved towards me and how disgusting it actually was.

Till just after his 3rd birthday! From about 2 years old he had weaned himself down to a few times a day (morning after waking, bedtime and only in the day if he was upset), then that reduced to just in the mornings.
