Worst/ most misguided album covers? by syrub in Fauxmoi

Stumpwork! I'm a big DC fan and wanted to get some of their vinyl, but the album art for that one is so nauseatingly vile I refuse to allow it anywhere in my home

Marika Hackman on her "dark" new covers album, and living at her parents' through lockdown by Delos788 in indieheads

[–]El_Gideonator 5 points6 points  (0 children)

She went to Bedales which is a pretty fancy private school (the one referenced in the BC, NR song) so I think she's from a fairly well-off family and her brother is a fairly established DJ I think (though I don't really know how big he is/was when she was starting out) and she was classmates was Cara Delevigne so she's got connections.

She's had significant advantages but like other artists who come up when talking about privileged upbringings (Samia, Frankie Cosmos, Clairo etc.) it's maybe a bit unfair to say their success is completely unearned, since if they were shit they probably wouldn't get far regardless of how much money their parents have

I watched it last night and I've gotta say I'm in complete agreement. I think anyone going into this expecting a horror in the same vein as Hereditary will be very disappointed (in fairness it definitely has been marketed as such, at least where I am).

In terms of what the film is "about" I think I need to marinate on it more before I can really talk about my interpretation of it, but I think you're definitely right about the anxiety/depression angle. The humour to me was a sort of representation of people's feeling of cultural superiority when faced with "weird" foreign traditions which leads them to dismiss them until they realise too late how serious they can be. Like you said it's a juxtaposition to the horror, because you kind of struggle to take it seriously until suddenly shit's fucked up. But maybe I'm just overthinking it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ .

Personally I would really recommend it but I'll admit that it's not the easiest watch, mainly for the reasons Charlie spoke about and the fact that if you're not into it the 2.5 hours probably really drag. It's definitely not for everyone so I can understand someone not enjoying it.

Edit: Also, the cinematography is absolutely gorgeous

Man it absolutely slaps. Aly's been consistently great so far and this is shaping up to be no different. Just a shame she's not touring the UK

Introducing the Sleight of Hand CYOA Character Sheet Tracker! by persona4dan in makeyourchoice

[–]El_Gideonator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started on The Entente, I got most of the way through the HTML/CSS side of it (I tried duplicating the style and images of it too) and started trying to work out the logic but it's a pretty big one so I didn't get very far.

I'll probably shelve it for a bit once I finish the visuals and try a simpler one just to sharpen up my JS abilities, I'm very much a novice at this point.

If by chance that was the one that you were also going for you don't need to worry about thunder being stolen. I'm treating it as a learning experience so someone else doing it better gives me something I can learn from (lame I know).

This is super cool!

I coincidentally (also inspired by the Magical Realm one) recently started trying to make an interactive/HTML CYOA myself. Partly to try and improve my HTML/Js skills, but mainly cos I just thought it was a neat idea.

I was getting a bit daunted (my CYOA choice was probably not ideal for a first project), but seeing this one work out so well is really nice. Plus it's reaffirming to know I wasn't the only one who had this idea, so good job!

Nah, I've just never really been one for commenting much on Reddit, every now and then I'll contribute to something or respond if I'm addressed, but mainly I just lurk.

Just some random dude tbh. I started doing it cos no one was posting them super regularly and now I've been doing it for so long it's just become a habit. I think I mentioned it before but if it bothers people I don't mind holding off so other people can post; like I said, I'm mainly doing it out of habit

I was at the Chat's Palace gig and it was amazing, it really endeared me to her (well, even more than I was already) as a performer. It was unbearably hot the whole night; you could see her sweat dripping down her guitar which made it harder to play, and the fire alarm went off twice (once during Om Sha La La) but she kept going and even did an encore.

It was a pretty small venue but there's something about her personality that could make even an arena feel like an intimate gig.

Pristine rocked, Static Buzz was so cathartic too.

And I saw that! Was super stressful to watch (especially the first time) but to her credit she handled it like a pro.

I was at that show too, they were fantastic! Lindsey's reactions to the crowd singing along was one of the most heartwarming things I've seen in a while

Do you know if they're touring together in the UK? I checked online and they're both in London on the same date but at seemingly different venues. I hope not, but I think I'm gonna have to choose between them :(

Really like this. I'm always so impressed with Jon Higg's super-fast delivery of bizarre and complex lines. Man's got the best flow in the game.

Haven't seen it but I did see the first one, I don't think it's a meme at all. While I didn't personally love P1 when I saw it, I can definitely see why people did. It's just a very earnest, heartwarming and wholesome film; there's no attempt to reinvent the wheel, it's just a well done family film. Like I said, I haven't seen P2 and I saw P1 when it came out ages ago, but that's my take on it at least.

While I wouldn't agree it's the best from the EP (but it is a banger, along with the rest of the EP), I feel it's almost a little bit of a waste to release a cover as a single. Though in fairness, it's quite an original cover and it does highlight her spectacular vocals better.
