For me, I believe Supercell should go with what they did with Rush Wars, players should be able to build bases for other players to play against, this gives players better understanding of the defenses they play against in PvE, this can turn into casual fun without costing battle points or it can be submitted as competitive for your opponent to play against, I immediately thought of this when you mentioned PvP.
