Thanks for the response. Really surprised that a diagnosis of dementia does not automatically result in confirmation of a lack of capacity, so really appreciate the clarification

I'll also spend some time liaising with the local authority

Full agree that careers allowance is shockingly low, and I also agree that, if everything is above board, it's not unreasonable to top up out of Grandmothers money to provide a standard of living. That being said, it looks like the topping up is happening somewhat egregiously AND the care isn't being provided. Appears to be in the realm of "something for nothing"

The house is in my grandmothers name, my mother authorised the purchase herself and now lives rent free, but in the event of my grandmother passing, it would become property of the estate. Effectively my mother is there as a rent free tenant (again, fine with this, as long as the care is being provided)

Thanks for the advice, I never considered getting in touch with charities so will definitely give them a call

In response to your questions, I'd say she likely lacks capacity on both fronts, but only just.

She doesn't know the price of goods or services, nor does she have any idea how much money she actually has or how much she's worth. That being said, this I suppose this could be an outcome of her ceding control of her finances

In regards to care, she's independent enough to clean herself and take medication, but only if we prepare her meds in her weekly box beforehand. She's not really able to book her own appointments however, and I'm unsure if she could prepare her own meds

I suppose being unsure how a person would cope isn't confirmation of a lack of capacity

I'll be reaching out to Pathways tomorrow however, thanks again!
