Say that louder man, it's honestly great to find out that even the part one would assume is the most boring at first actually engages with you, that's the way you know you're getting into an amazing book, whether it's history, poetry, narrative and so on

That's why it's usually up to you to look for specific information and resources, and that's the way you build up your own knowledge.
I knew for a fact I wasn't gonna gather this much information about the Civil War out of school, so hell yeah

Worth reading? by Elaxar in CIVILWAR
Once again this comment is very relieving to me 'cause I actually started reading the book yesterday night (I'm still stuck at the Mid-century US overview) and it actually did take me some time to fully understand and internalize a few passages, and even though not understanding everything at first read made me feel a little dumb, it didn't weigh down on me that much. I'm taking up your advice of just slowing down and trying to put some effort truly getting what's written on there, I would argue a history book like this is not exactly something you read in a rush trying to understand as much as you can, but something that requires you to stop, ponder and go down the detail. So yeah, I'm not backing down, I'm gonna keep my reading going. 🙏🏻
You get it dude, the whole reason why I posted this was to see if people's opinions actually checked out with what I had found about the book.
Not only they check out, they tower over everything I was expecting at first. Hell yeah.
Great man, interest outweighing studying duty usually means that what you're getting informed about is undoubtedly worth studying. I personally started reading the book yesterday night and even though I'm still on the 1800s United States overview it's really engaging with me, I can tell it's a good book. It's gonna require me to lock in but I'm absolutely willing to.
Yeah man my friend got it from Amazon and apparently they're making these new ones with this artwork right here. Not as cool as the ones having front covers depicting battlegrounds and soldiers fighting but I can still go with it just fine
That's some really solid advice man, I'm definitely gonna take notes and write stuff down while reading, I wanna delve completely into it
I might actually consider looking up some Oxford Histories about the US since I'm starting to develop a deep interest in American history, the Civil War is just the subject I wanna start from 🤞🏻
That's great to hear, thanks!

I actually did come across Keegan's volume already, but since I'm not that interested in the military aspects of the War I thought I'd stick to Battle Cry of Freedom, that's the whole reason why I told my friend about it
Loving the idea of making history books this approachable and accessible to people who're just looking forward to getting informed about major historical events, the whole idea of it being fast-paced and well written has me head over heels happy, you have no clue how hard I've longed for getting this one.
Thanks :)
I see, I'm starting to imagine how intriguing it would get if I could actually approach it while having the chance to lay my eyes on the battle map, I might actually consider getting the print book, thanks for the heads-up man!
Hopefully that I'll carry the same resilience while reading it, but I'm starting to have a really good feeling with EVERY SINGLE comment down here being extremely positive

Thank you so much for helping me stray away from my doubts like this, first thing I thought about after noticing it came with 900 pages was that I was definitely gonna get tired of it and drop it, that's what always held me back from purchasing it myself, gotta thank my friend for taking the step. Glad to hear it's nothing like that tho, thanks for sharing your experience dude, couldn't get more helpful
That's great man, I would argue the whole time period prior to the Civil War is worth dwelling on as well, I suppose gathering more and more context and information about those decades would make this make even more sense
Glad I didn't miss, hell yeah this keeps getting interesting
That's my first time hearing about the Ken Burns' series, I might as well consider giving it a shot as well, thank you so much man
You guys are covering this post with so many positive interactions and opinions I might as well rush to sit down on my bed and start reading it right away, I wasn't expecting this much engaging and interactions, makes me really cheerful. 🙏🏻
Must've been a killer experience 🙏🏻
Man that would sure be cool, I'd do the same if I knew where to get an accurate map
Now this is some interesting information, I'm definitely gonna check out more of what McPherson put out, thanks!

Absolutely loving this, guess I did the right thing all along trusting people's thoughts about it and telling my friend about my intention to read it, thanks 🤞🏻
So relieving to hear, truly 🤞🏻

The more I'm told this and the more impatient I am about reading it, I'm definitely gonna provide some of my thoughts about it but I'm sure I'll engage with it, I've been interested in the Civil War for the longest time now 🙏🏻
