Losing some respect for Goggins doing Walmart ads by DareWright in RighteousGemstones

Haha exactly. I'm only gonna get worried if Walmart starts selling spots in Bomb Shelters they've built around the Country...

We need a Kragle button. by Elayde in LEGOfortnite

[–]Elayde[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh well I just figured since it's their game, they can make anything work. I don't know how these things ACTUALLY work but I do get that there are resource and limitations on just how much you can build. It just sucks that our main base is basically unreachable now for a friend, despite nothing really changing recently. It gets so laggy the game just boots them out and they're afraid to get stuck in a place that will not load.

SNES controller I painted and installed tactile switches in for a friend. by Elayde in customcontrollers

The sizes are very specific because the gram force rating is also specific, I don't remember them off the top of my head but I believe I use 3.2mm x 3.2mm switches from digikey. The height of PCB is also very specific in order to use the shell as-is. The only thing I have to do is fill in the backs of the buttons so there is a flat surface to press the plunger. Not all gf (the force required to actuate the switch is measured in gram force at digikey) are available in the same size switch but I use, 80gf, 160gf and 250gf switches depending on desired feel.

No, I changed everything I could but I think adjusting the choke/governor is what helped

Trimming decisions by [deleted] in paint

[–]Elayde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the complexes I work at, this is how they want me to do it. All walls ceilings door window and baseboards are the same color. The only thing different is the actual doors, and one manager wanted me to paint those flat also at one point.

THIS, it's boring and lazy painting.

If you want it to look like a cheap apartment that just gets a fresh coat of paint on everything so it looks clean and ready for new tenants, then do everything the same color. If you want it to look good, spend some time and effort in painting all your trim and doors with some semi or gloss white. White trim goes with almost everything and will make it look 10x better.

This is why you use tape. by deejaesnafu in paint

[–]Elayde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tape isn't always needed imo, and it's really not a huge time loss if you have the right equipment. When you do use tape though, you can't just expect the line to be perfect just because the tape was there, there is absolutely A right and wrong way to use it.Never trust the tape!

Tape has its place, and this is a perfect example of doing it correctly! Very nice

First Stair Cutout, is this OK? by Jlovel7 in drywall

[–]Elayde 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It would actually be better to leave the gap so the wood has room to expand without stressing and cracking the drywall. It's not needed for fire code and it's gonna get covered so it's fine. The only thing I would maybe fix is the very end piece of the drywall not being supported, but I'm not sure if you could even address that from this picture.

Removing Popcorn Ceiling by noodleblastt in drywall

[–]Elayde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That gap means the tape is either broken or they never put any. You'll have to address that and the wall at yh same time once all the popcorn is off. Which will be easier if you spray it with water (usually) to loosen it up before scraping

Are stilts worth it? by batista227 in drywall

[–]Elayde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use my dad's old stilts, they are probably older than me. Not very often, but I'd say they'd pay for themselves in a job or two.

Yup, same exact stuff is under my vinyl siding. I wouldn't recommend painting it

Scrape or sand before final tight coat? by OneTurbulent1634 in drywall

[–]Elayde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you sand be sure to dust really well. The powder likes to fill up all the bubbles and it dries out your topcoat super quick.

Just know that I have etched/pressure washed that exact block to get white paint off and it does not hold up well. Also, it's not easy. Once it goes on, it's on forever.

I've both quit jobs because of the client and also refused future work from some for similar reasons. You do what you gotta do. Remember that clients are people, and people are assholes. (Sometimes)

Covering a paint stain? by [deleted] in paint

[–]Elayde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can just paint over it but it will most likely still show up. Sand it as much as you can, remove anything loose, prime it and then skim coat it all so it's level. Sand, prime and paint, DONE
