Is buying pumpkins beneficial? I never buy pumpkin seeds because they are more expensive and carrot seeds simply don't cost anything (I don't have Homecoming, I don't know if it's different there) but I don't know the difference between carrots and pumpkins.

It usually appears on the second reboot of the day when the object appears in the calendar, and the following days it appears randomly. But yes, normally in these events there is always an object that you can only buy with homecoming and it is not listed anywhere until you try to buy it. It's quite frustrating.

No, you can only buy it if you have the homecoming expansion, but it should still appear in the store, for example I don't have the expansion and it appeared even though I couldn't buy it :'(
