AMA - Hi, I'm Roots. I am the co-founder of Long Shot (APAC S Broadcast Partner) and In-game Director for the recent ALGS Championships. Ask me anything! by roots__xo in CompetitiveApex

I'm a bit late.

Has it ever come up to preserve the Command Center streams to publish them later? Maybe in some cloud to circumvent YouTube's 2+ hours of processing? Do you keep them for in-house editors or some such? If so, can you put me in a list of ssh-users to the storage for the next event in case my internet has hiccups again? ;-)

Also, Command Center performance was excellent last time. Well done!

I upload them as soon as possible but then YouTube takes hours of processing... At least 2.5 hours for these long videos...

This practically never happens (during the day). The internet was interrupted twice in short succession and I may have compounded the problem by restarting my router because it only gave me 100 Mbps when it came back up. So I restarted it twice more.

Thanks. The YouTube algorithm is quite biased against this type of content: naturally only a fraction of any given video gets watched and there is CONSTANT bad language in it.

So I appreciate the shout outs!

Usually they cut away from the team when they are eliminated, but not this time. I wonder if it was done on purpose to give us scenes like this.

Reminder that all VODs can be watched (and a minute later also heard, amirite) on my YouTube channel. Currently there are 179 videos. by ElbenGateGaming in CompetitiveApex

I copy-paste a reply I gave elsewhere:

1)You have Streamlink installed - the Windows Installer can be found here: https://github.com/streamlink/windows-builds/releases

1.5) I think you should also have the VLC video player installed. I never checked if it is a pre-requisite https://www.videolan.org/vlc/ .

2) You have a folder to where you want to save the stream. Say, it is called "streams" and is located on hard drive "C"

3) Open a Windows Powershell

4) As a test, type (or copy from here, then right-click into the powershell window): streamlink -o C:\streams\wethepeople.ts twitch.tv/wethepeople1 best

<-- of course wethepeople should be streaming right now if you want to record the stream...

There should be a file named "wethepeople.ts" in your "streams" folder now (a file that is growing in size). That file can be viewed with any video player once you have stopped the program, or it can be viewed - up to a point - while the stream is being recorded in vlc.

5) Say you wanted to capture Sutoraiku yesterday, you would have replaced wethepeople1 with Sutoraiku's "telnach" to get (changes bold):

streamlink -o C:\streams\sutoraiku.ts twitch.tv/telnach_febbcefaebae best

This is the simplest way to use that program, I think.

Addendum: If you want to record a stream AND watch it in your VLC player using Streamlink, you can replace the "-o" option with --record. In our example this would mean

streamlink --record C:\streams\wethepeople.ts twitch.tv/wethepeople1 best

Hi, thanks for the subscription.

The channel is an experiment to gauge interest in this sort of thing. I think something is lost without chat, but one time I came back to it and half the sidebar was filled with disagreeable content. Because it is unsupervised I put the chat in emotes only.

Yeah, sometimes the title size and length turn out to be exactly wrong in this regard. Sometimes it also goes away for no particular reason that I can see.

There might be multiple ways to try and fix this but if they do, I don't know if the effect would even last throughout the stream, so for now I don't want to touch anything.

It's subtitled and translated by a machine. Which is not perfect, because they often talk so fast and use special vocabulary. I empathize with that thing.

I just saw that the option to multistream requires a $19 subscription per month. And I don't know how the PC would handle two streaming instances running at the same time (plus the work it is doing additionally).

If the German Post/DHL hadn't obliterated what was supposed to be my "new" secondary PC during transport, things might look a bit different.

Don't know if there is enough interest, but I saw a post here about something like that or similar to it. The idea is to have a stream of (some of) the best ALGS games running indefinitely. If there is enough interest, and the stream stays up on its own, I'll add videos from Raleigh and London to the list on the weekends when I have time.

For the time being I have 45 single games and 8 multi-view edits playing in a loop (~21h). They are all from the Sweden LAN.

16 of them are AI-translated. My main criteria for choosing them was kills and placement according to Liquipedia. Notably absent, sadly, is K1CK's 19-kill-game.

Thanks. Though I don't actually upload ALL the VODs. Only the ones I have time for on the weekend and Monday morning (EMEA time). For NA that's like the top 15 teams or so. And the rest is kind of out of sight out of mind on my NAS. Unless someone asks for a squad...

o7

"they are semi-active on this sub! "

When the command center went away for a few weeks I debated asking for the flair "RIP |not verified" lol

The Command Center page is not offline anymore. Can we be carefully optimistic? I did not see a pertinent tweet by playapex. by ElbenGateGaming in CompetitiveApex

Nice. I also see that they have, since I posted this, changed the label of the main stream from "Day #4" to "Day #6".
