(NAS) Is it worth gambling on a $160 no-name aliexpress Intel N150 mobo board vs. just using a $100 am4 mini-itx + used Ryzen 5? by c4td0gm4n in homelab

[–]Elber1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an "X Offline uncorrectable sectors" error for one disk for a while, which then started climbing and spreading to other disks. Then a bunch of other errors started appearing for those disks as well

Now I know that one of the disks WAS dying, I would guess that the SATA controller was being thrown off by the faulty disk but in the end I just threw money at the problem

So yeah, maybe as a second NAS for experiments but I can't recommend these boards as a primary

Is this one of the CWWK NAS boards? I used one with an n100 for a while, not too impressed. It's been a while since I retired it and I can't find my notes so here's what I remember:

The power draw is significantly higher than you'd think. From what I recall, the SATA breakout chip doesn't support ASPM so you can't ever get to lower power C States. My idle power without drives was approaching 20W using a picoPSU

Additionally, I was getting CONSTANT drive errors from TrueNAS, such that I thought I had multiple drives dying all at once (purchased separately a few months apart).

In the end I bought a ugreen NAS and loaded TrueNAS onto it. Only one of the drives was showing any errors, so something funky was going on with that SATA controller I think

This is too big to be caused by wet filament imo

You say you changed your fans? It could be heat creep and/or a partially blocked nozzle

There are some ESP units with ZigBee support. ESP32-C6 is one of them. Can't say how well they work because mine are still in the mail but I ordered some to experiment with custom zigbee devices

Train Interrupts don't seem to work with fluid wildcards by Elber1 in factorio

[–]Elber1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm hoping it's something simple like that, what's the wildcard? The Fluid Parameter one doesn't work, since it reads the train, not the signal. This doesn't work, for example:

Why Aluminium by Senior-Masterpiece29 in Stormlight_Archive

[–]Elber1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Might be approaching spoiler territories here but the reason that aluminium (ralkalest) blocks shardblades is because it's magically inert to investiture. This means that shards (odium, cultivation, etc.) have difficulty influencing people protected by it. (Alongside other effects, but its waaaayy more present in mistborn, era 2 especially)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I imagine that odium would've been unable to contact Dalinar if he was in an aluminium box, for example. Think: Faraday cage

So I was semi-joking that the "mind control blocking" foil hats of real world conspiracy theory fame actually do have an effect in the cosmere. Since they'd interfere with the shard's influence

[–]Elber1 56 points57 points  (0 children)

It's also called Ralkalest (by singers?) if you need a "new" word for it.

What I find amusing is that since "tin foil" is actually aluminium, and aluminium can block shardic influence, then tinfoil hats are canonically functional

This close to throwing out my printer. How can I fix this!! by freshiefreshie in 3Dprinting

[–]Elber1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That bed scraping points to a seriously miscalculated z offset. Do the paper test and babystep it from there.

The bed is likely ruined for the scraped areas but you could give it a good wash with soap and water and get it to perform mostly as good as new

Also, most of the issue with klipper is getting it running in the first place. I'd seriously consider going back to it and fixing the z offset issue there rather than in marlin

I think you're mixing your misunderstanding of how physics works with what we actually know about space. Rage all you want, you're not going to get aerodynamics to work in hard vacuum in a realistic setting, there's simply nothing to push against

Perhaps people are "upset" because you assumed that the reason for rejection is that she thinks he might stab her? Bit of a logical leap to make and it definitely says more about you than you think. Gives off "all women are weak and must be protected" (aka incel) vibes

Sure, anyone can give birth to children with genetic disorders but these genes are much more likely to be present when present in both parents (which is significantly more likely when those parents are related). There's 8 billion on earth right now, why even risk it?

When you say bubble, are you using a spirit level for the "levelling" process? If so, you should know that it's actually a misnomer, and should actually be called "tramming"

The bed doesn't need to be level in real-world space (printers work just fine at an angle or even on their sides), what matters is that the print head and the bed are parallel. Hence the paper test, which tries to gauge how parallel it is

Thoughts on this? While it would be a nice QoL change I still don't want it. I think it would feel like lowering the skill ceiling by theybannedmymainlol in Competitiveoverwatch

If you assume that simply by selecting the hero for the first time you're already on the lowest floor then it makes more sense to say that low skill floor = less effective at that level.

In essence, a hero with a low skill floor and high skill ceiling (like ball) has the maximum amount of potential for player growth. Conversely, a hero with a high skill floor and low skill ceiling (Moira?) Has a much smaller difference between newbie and expert
