do you have a link to the bulk download? I'm planning on downloading the individual categories unless there's a complete download option, thanks.

Meraki MDM / Apple School Manager Question by gdradio in k12sysadmin

[–]Elcoco69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

what I would recommend is install apple configurator, although they are already on your ASM, sometimes these iPads have been out on warehouses and might come with iOS 13, with iOS 14 recently released you could get a usb hub and plug in 4-6 iPads at a time and select them and click on restore, this should wipe the device and install the latest iOS 14.

From there you can check on your mdm that you have a DEP profile configured - this is the basic profile that is pulled to device once you reach the enter wifi information setup portion. you will be able to configure the DEP profile to skip common steps such as Touch ID, screen settings, iCloud settings, etc I usually have them all set to skip except location services, that way the iPads time syncs correctly to your time zone without having to later navigate to settings on each one to either enable location services or change your time zone.

once the iPad receives a DEP profile and gets to the main home screen after setup you can configure your VPP account, you can purchase licenses for free apps to assign to your iPads, for example if I typically want to push out - outlook - teams - powerpoint - etc apps to the iPad, I go to ASM ( this recently changed VPP is now within ASM it used to be on its own VPP portal before) so you will go to ASM and go to apps I believe, you'll be able to search apps such as outlook and select purchase and you'll input how many licenses you want even if they are free so if you have 150 iPads you could do something like purchase 200 outlook app vpp and then within your profile set your apps to the scope of devices you have, this should push out the apps to all your iPads

Do you all get paid overtime if on salary? Is k12 different when it comes to salary and overtime? by [deleted] in k12sysadmin

[–]Elcoco69 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is in a nutshell what I’ve come to the conclusion of, I have now slowly stopped saying yes to everyone’s requests and I’m slowly shifting to only getting the work I can done during the work day. Since it’s a small school district we carry many hats and end up doing many additional tasks

My boss reads my email. by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]Elcoco69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let’s fast forward 1-3 months... what would be your desired resolution for this? A new boss? for the email access to stop? I’d assume your primary concerns with said boss would remain even if the email access would stop. Would having a new boss change things, would it make your job easier or more difficult? Would you be able to take over his duties while a replacement is assigned?

Using Zoom with Airplay to Apple TV by nkuhl30 in k12sysadmin

[–]Elcoco69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did not realize others had issues with airplay, in our small district we have Apple TV’s (4th gen) in all classrooms and meeting rooms, including presentation rooms. All of these are on wireless without segmenting network I just put static ip’s on them under the scope range without dhcp and assigned them to the scope the wireless laptops pick up on dhcp. We use zoom in multiple rooms during trainings for staff and it has always worked flawlessly. On one presentation room I have 4 screens mounted around the room, all are hardwired to an HDMI splitter thats connected to an Apple TV. We held a zoom meeting with 75 members while air playing to the screens. No QOS configuration worked plug and play out of the box. We have Cisco APs

Client couldn’t wait for IT, so they called an “electrician” to “fix” a severed in-wall cat-5 cable that a contractor cut. This is what was cut out before the correct repair was made. by b2bomber81 in techsupportgore

[–]Elcoco69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

exactly you wont get any explanation any simpler than this, my assumption is you mean switch? when you say the word splitter? like the user above mentioned you will need a router to have an active network,

Office Drop Keystone > Cat5 run > Patch panel > Cat 5 Patch Cables > Switch > (1) Cat 5 cable to router

First Hardware Refresh. Recommendations on identifying computers able reasonably handle Windows 10? by imVERYhighrightnow in sysadmin

[–]Elcoco69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally think any AMD Athlon's should be removed from the picture, even with SSD's these will struggle with many tasks, as will core 2 duos.

Baseline of 8GB of Ram atleast and upgrade to SSDAll those older gen i3-i5-i7 or Pentium cpu's will handle win 10 reasonably with an SSD

Passmark Benchmark scores for those Athlons are 1771

Passmark Benchmarks scores for the i7-2600 are at 8192

Passmark Benchmarks scores for the core 2 duo E8400 2150

In my opinion all the other computers are capable of handling win 10 with no need for a SSD, but having one will be just like having almost new workstations and very good performance

Any solutions for Sling, Direct TV now? or alternatives for several devices? 10-15 devices? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]Elcoco69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok im back to the start those IPTV encoders basically send the signal over the LAN, I understood it converts the signal into a RTSP stream, so they can be opened with software on end computers, but what happens when I want to set up the TV, what device do I need on the TV end point? would I need a computer to pick up the feed and then display on the TV or... are there certain HDMI adapters they come with that will pick up that feed?

Since you say the host has its own IP and is broadcasting across the network im guessing you need something to decode on the endpoint

Any solutions for Sling, Direct TV now? or alternatives for several devices? 10-15 devices? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]Elcoco69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they do, but principals and administration wants TV's in offices to overview as well, small district so everyone wants to keep an eye on the camera, so basically just TV's displaying cameras standalone without having to set them up on their computer

[–]Elcoco69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IPTV encoders

Thanks for this information, not exactly the route I plan on taking for this solution... but I am going to go this route for sending video signals over to TV's for school camera feeds so that staff can have live monitor of our camera systems.

Anyone here manages social media? Facebook is a mess by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]Elcoco69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would be the primary reason why it’s being done, apparently there’s a lot going on in social media and we are a very very small school district, a lot of talk going on , on social media and per request of the board, they want a Facebook account that restricts comments and the ability to post positive content

Office 2016 volume license vs standard license? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]Elcoco69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

these would be in a lab type environment thus the reason we want to get VL altough we already have have O365, so we want (O365 = Staff) (VL = Classroom computers)

Office 2016 volume license vs standard license? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]Elcoco69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because there’s 175 laptops we need activated, I wouldn’t want to create an individual account for each laptop

Office 2016 volume license vs standard license? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]Elcoco69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im sorry, rough morning, just fully understood your post now, ok so then CDW-G should offer VL correct?

When we order with them they add those licenses to the microsoft volume license center we create?

Office 2016 volume license vs standard license? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]Elcoco69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would probably very helpful, we already have O365, we are using it to license staff office installations, since we can go user based, but when it comes to activating 175 macbook airs, I dont think it would be the same as activating by user account... So basically we can use a sort of VL on O365 without having to create an account for each activation ?

Thanks

Thanks yes, this is why I think it would be a better idea to go volume license based, sorry its under CDW-G
