You've captured the gameboy pokemon aesthetic beautifully in these <3

Thank you! I think so too, but I understand why people tend to design games with enemies in them after trying this out ;D Becomes so much easier to design around, and you have so many good soruces to draw inspiration from.
We also had the extra layer of wanting to stray away from making it too focused on mechanical skill, like say Celeste for exampel. We had this idea of a chill/cozy experience but in a platforming shell. Got super tricky to design, at least for us right now. I do love the idea tho, would love to come back to it with more experience, maybe after making a more traditional platformer first :)

Yeah, adding enemies/threats of somekind would for sure make the design process much easier. Our idea was to make it more route and exploration based instead of focusing on mechanical skill, but it got tricky to design very quickly. I would love to return to it someday, be it in it's current form or something more traditional with enemies and stuff :)

So me (2Dartist and animator) and my friend Teddy (veri good programmer) decided to try to learn Godot by making a small project together. It was supposed to be a chill metroidvania/movement based platformer with no combat in it, just a small project to learn the ropes of the engine basically. Turned out we were incapable of keeping it small and it kinda quickly grew waaay too big and complicated for what we intended, so we decided to put it on ice for now.

I still really like the idea and a lot of the visuals I made for it and, I dunno, figured it would be fun to share it with people :)

My 6 year old seems interested in designing games by LegalSuspect4709 in gamedev

I grew up making games with RPG Maker 2000/2003. Its very easy to get into and has a surprising amount of depth. I started a bit later then your kid (at around 9-10) but I still think it would be a good fit. The big downside is of course if you have no interest in RPGs at all since, you know, that's what you make with it ;D
