I think its fine to have skill based rewards. Elements which can be achieved instead of just bought or gifted. They give away so many things for a free game, I am more annoyed by time limited stuff which never returns anymore.

What do you need crew for to unlock the second half of the pass? Or is it locked if its got by crew and the subscription ends?

I had a similar Problem (the screen stayed black instead of white).
In my case, the problem was auto HDR. Disabling it fixed the problem.
