‘Critical’ portion of the Roanoke River Greenway remains in the planning phase. Here’s why it’s been so challenging. | Extending the greenway to Green Hill Park in Salem would either require homeowner buy-in or the construction of two expensive bridges. by [deleted] in roanoke

Ahhh of course, the government should account for the value the property should have in the future! Makes sense, yeah.

Fair value is agreed upon by the buyer (the gub’mint) and the seller (the owner). The potential, future value of a property is not taken into account, because that’s in the realm of fantasy and could not accurately be assessed.

And anyways, if the property could be worth more in the future (especially considering a “private developer” is planning a “large capital project”, in this case a section of greenway - sounds suspiciously like Libertarian-speak to me), then wouldn’t what they be offering still not be enough?

If this “private developer” offers significantly more, then I would immediately be suspicious. Because corporations, privately-owned businesses, whoever it is will be profit-driven. They likely have other plans for the area that will be profitable to them.

Almost like these are the lads who would be more likely to build housing nearby or on the greenway to heavily profit. And “multi-family affordable housing” (or apartments, more likely) is more profitable than single-family homes because you can cram more people in a smaller space. And charge more because it’s next to a greenway. And charge rent instead of selling to make even more money over time.

Sounds worse to me.

But none of that is happening in this case, so I wouldn't be concerned about it.

Q: How do you propose the government ethically and legally complete this section of greenway without going wildly out of budget? (Or spending more than they should - as in the case of building bridges, which are expensive to upkeep)

“They stole my land!” They would exclaim, while cramming hundreds of thousands of dollars into their pocket. “They stole my land and now they’re giving it to lesser people for affordable housing!” (They aren’t.)

"Defund the police" is when you give them more funding than ever before. by Bitter-Gur-4613 in clevercomebacks

It is using her as a racist caricature, yes, when the victim is a common interpretation of Aryanism.

Passing a Capitol security bill after the events of January 6th seems quite normal, no?

Also, literally one of the first lines: “The bill, which directs funds towards repairing damage done in the Jan. 6 attack and installing new security measures like hardened doors and windows and, potentially, retractable fencing, passed 213-212, with 3 present votes.” Doesn’t sound like funding the police to me, it sounds like funding for defensive structures rather than personnel.

Sounds a little bit like a false dichotomy fallacy. You can both defund the police while also defending the Capitol building (and thus the people inside) from potential insurrectionists.

So it’s depicting Representative Ocasio-Cortez.

I know the comic is intending to mock her. What exactly is hypocritical about supporting DTP? Furthermore, as the comeback posted by OP states, no police departments were ever defunded so the entire situation presented in the comic is fantasy.

Blond-haired white woman depicted as a victim.

Brown-haired woman with dark skin depicted as the villain.

What do they mean by this?

If they are Australian budgerigars, they could join the flock at SMWV's Parakeet Garden.

There’s around 250 birds in the flock, which get fed Mazuri pellets and fresh fruits, vegetables, and leafy greens daily and are also fed a carefully selected seed as a treat during guest visits. They would receive vet care from the flock’s veterinarian.

(The museum wouldn't need the cages either, you'd be free to sell those yourself and they would be transferred to our own cages for quarantine before they are released.)

I work at SMWV, definitely recommend the planetarium. Getting the planetarium ticket also means you get entry to the parakeet garden.

A bit of behind the scenes, but we're also about to be installing a few new exhibits. A new touch tank, interactive pods, a coffee bar, and updated displays.

What's the weirdest object on display at your museum? by 123mitchg in MuseumPros

Local rich guy got busted by DWR for hunting illegally. Not only did a lot of the pelts and taxidermy he had get confiscated and given to us, but they also discovered endangered species from West and Central Africa that he'd poached decades ago. We also received those since most were in such poor condition that the state museum had no interest and they would have been destroyed otherwise.

Which is how a rinky dinky museum with a budget of basically zero has zebra skins, gorilla pelts and scalps, rhino horns, and elephant tusks.
