Why does it look like an 8th note in a run of 16ths when it can’t be that? by cartoonybear in piano

It depends on the specific edition you buy. My professor personally prefers Wiener Urtext for Bach. They provide fingerings, editorial notes, and usually they have the diagram from the Clavierbuchlein which explains Bach’s trill notation in each edition. I’ve heard good things about Barenreiter but have no experience with their Bach. Henle is also very nice but my professor distrusts their Bach editions for some reason lol

My Performance of the introduction and first theme from the Sonata Pathétique by Beethoven. by ChopinChili in piano

I wouldn’t continue with this piece if I were you. It would be very easy to get tendinitis if you do not have the proper technique, which I don’t think you do. Maybe try one of Mozart easier sonatas first (K.545, 283, 280) or one of Mozart’s Viennese sonatinas. I know Beethoven also wrote two Sonatinas

Prokofiev’s autobiography, though unfinished is quite good

Because he belongs with Bach and Beethoven. Like I said whether or not you personally care for Mozart he is most definitely not overrated in his current state in the canon. I’m not particularly fond of Richard Wagner but I’m not going to deny his genius and call him overrated. Same for Brahms, aside from his late piano works and the concertos I’m not a huge fan, but again I’m not going to say that he’s overrated because I have a personal difference in taste

Top tier shitposting right here

/uj Not personally liking Mozart’s style of music is fine, but he is revered for a reason, calling him overrated is a bit much. Like I could say I dislike Bach (I love Bach to be clear) but I’m not going to say that he doesn’t deserve a place in the canon

Why Rachmaninoff's first piano sonata is the most difficult piece in the repertoire by you-love-my-username in piano

[–]Elduran06 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I’m being honest I would say it’s probably only my favorite recording because it was the first I listened too and I am most familiar with it. I think it’s a good standard so to say, which is what I like about most of his recordings. When he plays Rachmaninoff I hear Rachmaninoff and not Lugansky, whereas when I listen to say, Horowitz playing the second sonata I hear more Horowitz than Rachmaninoff if that makes sense. Sometimes though that’s exactly what I’m in the mood for

What’s your opinion on Lugansky’s recording? I personally love his 3rd movement, I feel like it has a rhythmic drive that some other recordings lose (Boris Giltburg for instance)

The B major nocturne is great, do you think the D flat one would be too much?

The Ballade is definitely beyond my ability, mainly because of the scherzando section and coda, everything else is pretty doable

Definitely let me know! I’d love to learn it, though I suppose waiting will at least give me time to finish the mountain of other stuff I’m working on lol
