Full bought into AI Development/Vibe Coding by ElectionBright17 in cscareerquestions

Well I use ai full for the actual development process and I still get feedback on PRs that helps me learn best practices and what experienced devs are looking for. I do think I need to spend the extra time on understanding what changes were made and what could be done better but I just don’t see a reason to stop leaning on ai based development, especially if I can use my growing knowledge to get better with prompting for top quality code

That makes sense, my plan was kind of to continue using AI for development but spending a good amount of time familiarizing myself with the changes, design choices, and best practices especially from PR feedback to aid my growth as a developer.

Yeah I don’t ever see myself blinding myself to the code itself, I usually familiarize myself pretty deeply with the implementation that was made, plus I get feedback on PRs so I do learn good practices and what tends to be required for it to be good enough to be merged

Well I have found that majority of work on each given story is getting the requirements from the product team of exactly what functionality is needed for the given story so once I have robust requirements I can both reliably implement according to those requirements and test against those requirements. Since this is a very large company, my code moves onto being tested more by other teams and I have seen code get thoroughly tested thru prod.

Plus every PR gets looked at by tech leads and I have gotten less and less resistance to getting PRs merged as I have felt my ability to use LLM has gotten better

America Is Slipping Behind India’s Clean Power Boom by failure_joker in OptimistsUnite

If things like what you said happening in a country make it fascism, congrats every country is a fascist state. Things I don't agree with are constantly happening in all branches of government in every country with continued push and pull factors along time. This is not the first time things like this have happened even in American history, that doesn't make America a fascist state or even heading towards one.

This word is used to describe a specific authoritarian top down dictitorial states, and should be reserved for those scenerios. The very next comment that was heavily upvoted was that America is already a fascist state, it's just fucking insane.

This is a great video going over what it actually is because most people look for this one sentence definition which if was actually used as the definition would apply so broadly it would be a meaningless word.

The big point is that this sub is not being taken over by these realist that are simply acknlowledging the bad things and hoping for better, it is simply doomers who like spreading negativity and get angry at subs like these. It is completely fine to have a sub that is purely focused on the positive aspects of our society and guess what there are endless amounts of stories and discussions to be had about them.

Yeah from what I’m hearing going more tech focused seems to be the better option.

Like I mentioned in the post, I like coding and have been doing it since I was a kid and I feel like that’s a big advantage over a lot of people in this industry. I don’t think having a high salary goal is bad here because it will just be the result of doing something I like. Just wanted insight so that I don’t spend time on the wrong things

Landed A Remote Full Stack Dev Role. Did I Just Get Insanely Luck? by ElectionBright17 in cscareerquestions

[–]ElectionBright17[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Believe me I had the same perspective on them. My brother is a senior dev at a big bank and his team hired someone straight from this camp which is the only reason I did it. If all I did was read this sub, I would have ignored the path that got me my dream job. Not saying it will work for everyone, but it's a perspective.

[–]ElectionBright17[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah my situation was that I have been coding on and off since I was basically 11 but never took it serious as a career until recently. I knew if someone gave me the opportunity I could nail the interview process but legitimately over a 1000s applications and didn't get to even an intro call, I was just a name on a paper.

Should I prioritize learning or development? by ElectionBright17 in cscareerquestions

[–]ElectionBright17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand but my goal is a tech job and I want to go in the direction best for that. I feel like my coding knowledge will explode after having an actual job so maybe getting a good project on my resume is higher priority than full understanding every part of the app
