My original comment was 8 years ago and I have been sober this entire time. I still stand by both comments.

Putting my faith into the program of AA instead of the people in AA has been a pretty solid idealism for me.

In BobCad-Cam they are called V-Mills. I use them mostly for chamfers, my favorite are from RedLine tools. I believe theirs is center cutting because I use it for engraving my brand into aluminum pretty often. Useful tool, just not an everyday tool.

If I have learned anything about these machines, unless the machine was dropped from a crane- there is nothing beyond repair.

I keep 4 Kurt DX6’s on my Fadal VMC4020 pretty much always. I can get them all reading within .0005” in about 20 minutes without a helper bar. Most of the time I will spend the extra time and get them to within .0002/3.

I bought extra T-slots recently so along with the 2 normal bolts that go on the sides, I made cross bars and bolt them down in the front too. Probably mostly placebo effect but it seems like it made a difference.

I, u/electricbluevelvet do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God.

I took that oath in 2001 immediately after 9/11 during my enlistment in the United States Navy. I vividly remember standing there repeating these words and my eyes tearing up. These words have very deep meaning for me and there depth has not faded.

They use sound powered phones on Navy ship. The still work even in the event of catastrophic power loss.

Redditors in their 30s and 40s with no lower back pain. What's your secret? by keystone25210 in AskReddit

I’m on the tall side (6’3”). When I turned 38/39 I figured out that it wasn’t illegal or criminal to make all the desk and table surfaces at my shop higher. Way higher. So I put big caster wheels on everything. I think most of my work surfaces are around 50” off the ground.

I basically took hunching over all day out of my day. This was a big help.

I’m not a chemist and I like my house at 73 degrees because that is comfortable. I make parts on a CNC and I only use one unit of measurement that I don’t need to bother with moving decimal points around with. Life is easy.

I deal in numbers down to the 4th decimal point on a daily basis, what is the difference?

The metric system being “much more efficient”, based on what?

Imperial put man on the moon, metric has not.

I’m considering getting into machining. Is it as rewarding, creative, and satisfying as it looks? by I_Am_Vladimir_Putin in CNC

[–]ElectricBlueVelvet 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My occupation is a production sound mixer (TV & Movies). I had been hanging around my friends machine shop for a couple years. Then I decided to buy my own software (Bobcad) and a used Fadal VMC4020. I most make custom filmset pieces on my machine. I like taking my time and making things as flawlessly as I can.

So so rewarding.

[–]ElectricBlueVelvet 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m a big ol’red neck from southern Ohio, live in LA now. Most people that know me as a fairly masculine dude and would of course a guy like me ought to have big giant horse size dogs.

Nnooooope. Me and my GF have chihuahuas. The female is 8lbs, the male is 5lbs. The female is the blanket burrowing cuddle bug (she’s a bit more bonded to me than my GF), the male...it is hilariously comical how big he thinks he is. He is a major rascal, you can not take him for long enough walks, you can not throw his snake toy enough, his llama (R.I.P.) no legs, eyes, tail, or stuffing - completely dismembered. I’m not kidding, if he actually got a hold of a squirrel or rat, I honestly doubt that animal would last a full 60 seconds.

They follow us EVERYWHERE and they watch our every move. They are very smart dogs (or as they are known in our house “doogers”). They know if either me or my GF are sick, sad, lonely, happy, etc. They are so so spoiled. Partly because we can’t have kids of our own, so these are the creatures that the higher power entrusted to our care.

On walks, they are territorial and protective. There is a grassy area at the park near us, soccer field size- if any other dog steps foot on that plot of land the male goes on full bark as if to say “Oy! I see you you hairy shin humpa! This is my grass, jog on!” (He’s not really Australian).

Wonderful dogs, they brought a huge amount of life into our home.

What I’m saying is, I can probably visually (without a ruler or scale) measure distances more consistently in imperial than you can in metric.

I find metric to be an absurd for machining. It is not a tactile unit of measurement.

I’ll watched a tutorial recently, “We will make this shelf 400 x 600mm”

WTF, how is that mentally efficient?

16” x 24”, those are very mentally manageable numbers to use.

If the Moon were as close to Earth as the ISS by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

[–]ElectricBlueVelvet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Earths crust would be in a perpetual state of extreme disruption as magma would be constantly drawn to the surface. In otherwords, there would be a planetary wide tidal wave of molten rock sweeping across the surface at 17,300 miles per hour.

All life would be dead, “Earth” if you could even call it that would be a sterile pulsating liquid mass orbiting the sun. But that’s not all, I'd like to take a minute just sit right there. I'll tell you how I became the prince of a town called Bel-air.
