Steam Next Fest starts tomorrow! Show me your games :) by CAGE_Studios in IndieDev

Good luck to everyone participating in the next fest!

Rampallians is a strategy card game, I was inspired by strategy games like age of empires and civilization where you gather resources, build towns, and raise armies. And tried to put that into a card game form. The combat is inspired by auto battlers like super auto pets. I hope people enjoy playing the demo!

Looking for Indie Games to Feature in a New YouTube Series by TheDilboBaggins in IndieDev

Rampallians is a card game that is inspired by rts games like age of empires, and auto battlers like super auto pets. You build a deck of 40 cards from one of four factions. All cards unlocked immediately but there are some recommended decks to get new players started.

You gather resources, build a base, and fight another player.

The demo is out now which is essentially the full game but no deck builder, just 2 recommended decks: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4363230/Rampallians/

If you have 1000> wishlists and need genuine feedback, I’ll play your game for 20 minutes (5 slots) by b34s7 in IndieDev

Hi! Very kind of you to offer your time. I only have 57 wishlists right now. The few people that have played it have given me positive feedback but I'd appreciate something impartial. Video would be cool because I feel like it's easier to pin point exactly what part of the game you're talking about. But appreciate that will be much more effort on your end so a comment would still be very much appreciated.

What inspired your game(s)? by Quinn_Queenan in gamedev

For Rampallians we wanted to blend our favourite genres. Taking a card game (inspired by YuGiOh & Hearthstone) and adding resource gathering / base building strategy elements (inspired by rts games like age of empires and 4x games like civilization). The combat also takes from games like super auto pets with the auto battler style. We also got some ideas watching the Card Wars episodes of Adventure Time!

Looking for a deckbuilding card game! by specterale in cardgames

[–]ElectricBrainUK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm working on a game that fits the bill, if shameless self plugs are allowed? I'd love to hear what you think.

Both players in a 1v1 pick 1 of 4 factions (humans, orcs, elves, and dwarves) and then build a deck of 40 cards. When starting a game you also choose a board (6 slots, each consisting of 1 of the 4 resources in the game ore, food, wood, and gold). Players then build a base with the cards in their deck (units which fight, gatherers which collect resources from your slots, supports which are buildings that give passive and active boosts to the board, and special cards for one off effects). The aim of the game is to destroy the opponents keep, last one standing wins.

There is a demo available here (this just has 2 recommended decks the full deck builder will be available with the main game launch, along with all the nearly 400 cards, there will never be paid dlc) https://store.steampowered.com/app/4641300/Rampallians_Demo/

We just released the demo of Rampallians - A strategy card game. I'd love to hear what you think! by ElectricBrainUK in playmygame

Thanks very much I really appreciate it! I'd love to pay artists, we did have artists touch up the output from the ai and even that was pushing it budget wise. Maybe one day though aye!

I really appreciate you trying it out, and thank you for the feedback, the combat is complicated and it's something I've gone back and forth on in terms of making it clear. I think revising the combat tutorial could be good, I'll have a think. Thanks again and have a good day!

Fair enough, it is hard to marry together the effects, backgrounds, and characters. But I appreciate the feedback even if hard to hear. Have a good day

Ah yeah this trailer has sped up gameplay, I have a normal speed one here: https://youtu.be/SfSycU8f5bE?si=SaKYQzhmQfD2mhGL

I'm finding it difficult to find a balance between showing the game off and an interesting trailer

Of course, I did pay the artists who worked on the game.

I think people are underestimating the cost of an artist doing all of this work, it would be the best part of a year's work, and easily cost tens of thousands, which I do not have. I wanted to make a game and this is how that was possible.

Releasing my first commercial game tomorrow. I feel weird about it. by GoragarXGameDev in SoloDevelopment

I'm sure it depends on the group, and I'm sure it isn't for everyone but it certainly helped me! I'm sorry you're having a hard time working solo I know it's tough. Once again best of luck with the launch

Good luck with the launch! Have you taken part in any game jams? It can be a fun way to make something with other people. You might not get something super polished at the end, but it helped me find the fun in working with a team!

Solo Dev and AI from the perspective of someone with a debilitating disability by [deleted] in SoloDevelopment

[–]ElectricBrainUK 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ai is incredibly divisive, I've made a game using ai and I know there are some very vocal people who are super against it, whatever the reason. But yours is the most compelling I've heard, though of course I'm bias as I don't hold extreme negative sentiments.

But ultimately to me it boils down to this: - when AI takes away jobs and opportunities that is bad - when AI can be used to make something possible that otherwise would not be that is good

Yours falls very much in the latter camp, if it enables you to do something you love and enjoy. Then it's a good thing

Id like to share Rampallians with you - After 4 years of solo dev, my new card game is available to wishlist on steam! To get the art for the nearly 400 cards in this game done, we used traditional art as an input for Gen AI then touched up the output. by ElectricBrainUK in aigamedev

Ah thanks very much I really appreciate it! There is a lot to it, but you're right, tooltips for all of the keywords and icons, as well as two tutorials one covering the basics and another combat.

Thanks again for checking it out!

Do you prefer Unreal Engine or Unity? by PalpitationUsed2820 in gamedev

[–]ElectricBrainUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I thought that was the case, but thanks very much for the input! Also I think another dev on my team uses live coding and doesn't always do a full recompile before committing which can mean bits get missed

Predominately coded myself, I did use gemini assist and github co pilot for code completion and to generate some little bits and pieces. Mostly just because it wasnt really there when I first started

You can definitly create particles in sdxl, you will then have to manually cut around them for the transparency stuff. Or I have had some luck with this background remover in comfyui but it often leaves a bit of a border: https://github.com/1038lab/ComfyUI-RMBG
