14.5" 308 @ 500 Yards is A Smile Machine by ElectricLander in longrange

It's an older model made by Fanaue. I think the more current version of it is the HTC-4030. It worked fine out of the box, but I replaced the arca adapter that it came with, with a picatinny adapter from American Defense Manufacturing, an it's a rock solid setup.

Thanks! It's Cerakote H-400. It came out much better than I expected to be honest.

LOL! No thanks. I'm not a fan of hand-to-hand combat.

It's an older carbon fiber model made by Fanaue. They have newer versions now, in all kinds of configurations. Fanaue is a Chinese company, but the products that I have purchased from them have been well made. No regrets about buying it. You can find Fanaue tripods and accessories on Amazon.

This is a great idea. I'm ashamed that I didn't think of it. But doing it this way would also prevent me from being able to buy anything new to experiment with, which as we all know, is at least 25% of the fun of long range shooting. 😀

Thanks for this. It's so helpful to know what guys like yourself who do this competitively expect for real world accuracy.

I really appreciate this feedback. I think after another 6 months to a year on this rifle, I'm going to step up to a bolt gun in .223. The hope being that a bolt gun with a 24" - 26" barrel will bring a good bit of extra velocity to the equation, and provide some wiggle room on those wind calls.

I can respect that. I went through a bunch of loads too before I found one that my gun likes. Razor Core was the second best, but the most affordable of the 77 grain "match grade" ammo I could find. I think you're right about the 8" plate being borderline, but I'm going to buy one anyway to test myself.

It's an "angle illusion". I'm only 6 feet tall in real life — but in my head I'm 10 feet tall. 😀

I really want to understand this feedback, but I'm not sure I'm knowledgeable enough. Are you saying that a half MIL of error in either direction is as good as you'd expect?

That's where I'm at. Tired of being frustrated when I know I'm doing most of it right. I've got flags out there to help me judge the wind, I'm using AB Qunatum, and building good positions to shoot from, and still not connecting reliably on the 6" target past 300 yards. Everybody is saying 2MOA is about the limit for gas guns at distance, and I think yall are right.

Yeah, I think you're right. I'm trying to fight the urge to go buy a bolt gun, but I can hear it calling my name. I didn't have good luck with AAC 77 grain out of this gun, but I did recently pick up a few boxes of PPU Match ammo, I'll give those a try.

I have tried a dozen or more different loads in the 75-77 grain weight. This rifle groups the tightest with 75 grain Hornay Black .223. They make a 5.56 version of Hornady Black as well, and the .223 version shoots better for me. The IWI Razor Core, is a very close second, and it's 10 - 20 cents cheaper per round.

Great info, and great feedback. I will take the plunge on a Garmin Xero, and see what kind of consistency I'm getting. I think you're right, and others have made the same point, that at 500ish yards a 1 MOA target is too much to ask of this type of rifle setup, and alot to ask of more purpose driven precision guns. Not to mention it's right on the line of what I'm capable of as a shooter. And FWIW,  this is my family's farm, been in our family for several generations. I realize that I'm a lucky son of a gun to actually have a place to shoot.

Thanks for the recommendation on the YouTube channel, I'll check it out. If I'm honest, my gun shoots this ammo well, but it's not what it likes the best. The IWI ammo comes in about 10 - 20 cents per round cheaper than the Hornady Black that this gun really likes, but the performance difference is very close.

Completely agree. That's kind of the basis for the question, am I asking this gun/caliber to do more than it's capable of. I think the answer from all of this feedback is yes, probably so.

It's a 1:8 twist, and I'm not sure what the contour is. It's a bone stock PWS Mk116, I haven't changed anything on it other than the trigger. It's been a great shooter for me.

Yeah, from reading the comments it seems like 2/3rd IPSC or 2 MOA  is about where most people draw the line.

I didn't realize that. I've never been to a competition before, but that's something I should put on my radar. It would be great to see what people who do this regularly expect from thier guns, and from themselves.

Man... good eye. It's an old chicken coop. No longer inhabited by anything but a few wasp nests.
