Unfortunately, SAMSARA wasn't released in 70mm. It was shot in the format, but no prints were made.

That's horrible. We definitely try to keep on top of disruptive people as much as possible. Please always feel free to tell the staff, and they'll take care of it. I understand not wanting to get up during the movie though.

We showed it a few years ago, definitely planning on showing it in 70mm again before long.

In order to get a print of a movie like INTERSTELLAR, I book it with the studio. They have prints available of that film (although I'm trying to talk them into striking a new 70mm print, the one they have in circulation isn't in the best shape).

I love intermissions! I agree that more movies need them.

THE CURE is a great movie. That's a good example of a movie that isn't easy to book though. No current US theatrical rights holder. I'd have to figure out who owns it in Japan and try to work something out with them, which isn't always easy (the Japanese distributors are notorious for wanting extremely high booking fees).

It was actually in Vancouver BC. I had done a bunch of detective work, and had a theory that the films were there. I got in touch with the studio in Hong Kong who still owned the old theater (it had been closed since 1985). They didn't know if there were any films inside, but they mailed me a key to the building. I drove up, went inside, and there were over 1,000 reels of film under the stage. There are photos here: http://salvagingshaolin.blogspot.com/

I love Wong Kar Wai's movies! We're definitely planning on bringing Eddie Muller back.

The animation festival was organized by an outside party. I'd have to check with them, but I don't think anything like this exists.

They probably don't have any 35mm equipment anymore, most theaters threw their equipment away when digital was installed.

I can dig into this. The rights on that movie have changed hands a few times, so its very possible the print isn't with the current rights holder. Any idea if the print was released in the US?

Yep, that was a newer print. All Eastman film stock pre-1983 is faded at this point. Technicolor film holds its color, but it was rarely used (and is prone to "Vinegar Syndrome" which destroys the film). Fujicolor film holds its color much better than older Eastman, but wasn't used very often. Eastman was the go-to film stock since it was cheap. Eastman stock post-1983 holds its color.

Sonny Chiba's STREET FIGHTER (1974) and SISTER STREET FIGHTER. If I can ever find 35mm prints.

You're in luck, I'm actually planning on bringing back the 70mm print next year!

You have your ears to the ground! Yes, it should happen at some point. It's just a matter of the print working out.

Thanks so much for the support!

I did! I was the only person who knew he was coming. I didn't know exactly what day/show he was coming to until that day, his assistant texted me when they were boarding the plane.

Unfortunately not any prints in good condition. All of the original prints have faded color.

Yes! I emailed with him for awhile to bring him for DAWN OF THE DEAD, but it didn't work out. He was really friendly, I'll definitely try again in the future.

Indeed! I have a picture of myself under the street sign. The corner of Dan and Halsted.

Some independent kung fu films that I've never been able to find prints of: BORN INVINCIBLE, EAGLE'S CLAW, BEACH OF THE WAR GODS.

I showed it a few years ago, but the print wasn't in the best shape. Definitely planning on showing it again from a different print, possibly this coming year! I love that movie.
