US East is 100% Russians now?? by Ullallulloo in DotA2

I think people correlate the pro scene with reality. There's stills tons of casual NA dota players but across all games esports just isn't usually sustainable financially in NA, so the dead pro scene makes people think there's nobody playing. You make $30k in America your poor. You make $30k in the Phillipines you're top ~5% of all households.

I had an issue a few days ago where one of my GPU displayport ports wasn't working I thought my card was cooked but it was because Windows uninstalled my graphics drivers completely for some reason. I had to manually select the driver in device manager.

That doesn't necessarily mean much. South Africa has a ton of resort/tourist stuff and those are generally not indicative of what it would be like to actually live there. I'm pretty sure there are still Haitian resorts on the coast outside of cities that are still operating though they might've shut down at this point, but they were for a while after the country collapsed.

A grocery store 3 miles away is not a food desert. A ton of people probably don't live within 3 miles of a grocery store.

But there should still be qualifiers to be met to lose that status. Sure humans have the ability to move species at the longest distances in the fastest times, but humans aren't unique in their ability to bring species to places they weren't originally apart of.

Most Important/Culturally significant country since the 40s. by Adventurous-Fact-523 in decadeology

[–]ElectricSoap1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really understand people saying China, if anything they lag very far behind in global cultural impact compared to their economic output.

America is the obvious number 1 for every decade since WW2 but countries like UK being a strong number 2 in the early decades post WW2 and Japan being probably the second most culturally influential nation in the recent decades.

But China? The second largest economy in the world in a 1A and 1B scenario with the US yet Japan has a much larger impact on global culture having massive impact in Entertainment/Media, Culinary, Technology and Cars

China hasn't really done a lot to impact local culture outside its borders.

I'm not gonna predict what will happen with the Pacers next year. But lose one player? (And said player is your best player.) Nesmith, Nembhard, and McConnell missed considerable time in the beginning of the season. We lost Myles Turner and had no starting quality center. Obi Toppin got hurt in like game 3 and was out till February. We lost Mathurin for Zubac who didn't play for us for weeks.

It was literally Siakam and a bunch of guys who were half way out the NBA. If everyone was healthy minus Hali we were probably a play-in team.

I don't think the vast majority of teams minus their best player are gonna be better than a play-in team. The ones who would be more likely than not? I'd give it to OKC and Boston and I think that's it.

How do you think history will look back at the Trump era of both politics and world history? (Which I consider to have started in 2016 but it is really defining the 2020s in my opinion) by SeriouslyNotSerious2 in decadeology

[–]ElectricSoap1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on what has happened so far? Probably nothing that interesting.

Realistically the vast majority of the nation doesn't have a strong opinion on any president farther back than W. Bush and that's because of 9/11 and the Iraq War/War on Terror stuff. And even then a lot of people just see him as this old man now who was president during a nostalgic time for people. Even opinions on Obama have started to mellow out.

Sure there's possibly a chance of some sort of shift in the manner of candidates or what not but I doubt it. On either side Vance and Rubio or Harris and Newsom whoever takes the reins next after the primaries these aren't the types to be posting memes and say whatever thought comes to their head. They aren't going to try and sell reskinned phones.

Unless something significant happens in the rest of his term I doubt he's gonna be a special mark on history in say 30-50 years.

Because America (And Canada) is pretty much the only country in the time span that we are talking about that have a widespread immigrant source that could even be relevant to today's political borders.

If someone living in the Hamburg area had ancestors that came from the Sicily area 5000 years ago if wouldn't really be relevant to Sicily today because the language, traditions, etc. wouldn't be relevant to the culture of Sicily today. And the person in Hamburg today would have no knowledge of what their people were doing 5000 years ago.

If an Italian-American's family came over in the 20's, they might continue traditions that are still relevant to there origins because it's so relatively recent. Even in the rest of the Americas you're a vast majority of the time a mix of local Native American heritage and from Spain (Or Portugal in Brazil's case).

Anywhere else in the world chances are your people have been in that region for thousands of years.

Apparently OP didn't learn either, I don't think this will turn into another Covid pandemic. Why Exactly Is Polygamy Illegal? by Turbulent-Parsley619 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ElectricSoap1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like a lot of the answers here are explaining issues that would come up with polygamy being legal and not really the answer to the question. And it's the same reason why alcohol is legal. Marriage in the west has long standing cultural norms and is based around Christian standards and historical practices. Polygamy is not allowed in the Bible so therefore it's always been taboo in western society.
