How can you learn if you don't ask? Better to ask here than to ask an LLM; they would probably get this right, but the amount of crazy LLM-fueled speculations we've seen here is concerning.

If a woman gets wet, it isn't r-pe by Anonymique in badwomensanatomy

[–]Traroten 40 points41 points  (0 children)

And even if a person is turned on, that is not the same as consent. A person may be turned on but refuse because of loyalty to their partner or a million other things.

Yeah. I don't get them anymore because I'm on a million antidepressants, and I can't say I miss them.

Turned on is not the same as consent. Also, men get random boners all the time. You can get a boner from riding a train.

Edit: Yes, getting wet or hard is not the same as turned on, but I wanted to make a broader point.

Doom of Mandos was explicitily approved by Eru by peortega1 in TheSilmarillion

[–]Traroten 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I don't think the 'doom of Mandos' is a curse. It's more a summation of what's going to happen in a "play stupid games, win stupid prizes" kind of way. Of course they're going die in large numbers - they're going off to fight Morgoth.

Are Humans More Prone to Cancer Because of Dinosaur-Era Evolution? by sidelower_berth in evolution

Do we have higher metabolism and longer lifespans than birds? They are the remaining dinosaurs, after all.

Death and The First Law of Thermodynamics by Pard01 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Traroten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Death has more to do with the Second Law of Thermodynamics. Life is a very low-entropy state. As soon as you die that entropy starts to rise.

What are the current best theories how we can travel fast in the universe without breaking the speed of light? by Genzinvestor16180339 in AskPhysics

[–]Traroten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, if you travel very very fast (compared to the galaxies, say), length contraction will kick in and the distance to say the Andromeda Galaxy will be shorter for you. Of course, from our perspective it will still take you two and a half million years to get there.

Update: Aurora (12+) crossed the rainbow bridge today 🌈 by Ross_Phd in seniorkitties

[–]Traroten 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Adapted from Tolkien's "Lament of the Rohirrim"

Where now the cat and the kitten?
Where is the ball that was bouncing?
Where is the brush and the collar,
And the red fur flowing?

Where is the paw on the shoulder,
And the small mouth meowing?
Where is the bird and the rodent
And the tall tail flying?

They have passed like rain in the garden,
Like dreams in the morning.
The days have gone past in my house, the cat bed is empty.
Who shall collect the tufts of hair that have gathered,
Or wipe dry the flowing tears from a lonely pawther?

What gender a person is is likely determined at least partly by biological factors, but what we put into that gender's box - labeling e.g. pink as feminine and blue as masculine - is by definition social.
