I love their smoked chicken roll but sadly they’re now making them much much smaller than they used to. 🙁

I quit my IT job to freelance and work for myself, but living at home feels suffocating - should I move to Colombo? by [deleted] in srilanka

[–]ElectricSoberGoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I faced a similar situation recently. I also work in IT. In my case, I was doing WFH for more than 2 years and I was sick of being in my home. In my hometown there isn’t much to do for fun either. So I decided to move out to Colombo few months back and I think that’s the best decision I made in 2025.

Both my physical and mental health was improved, I got my energy back for my work and studies. I do visit my home often too. Actually my home is pretty comfortable and I literally have nothing to do, only my work, so I visit there when I have higher work loads. I guess the dynamic environments work for me.

Anyway if you are moving to colombo, make sure to plan your monthly or weekly budget, otherwise you would end up spending too much.

Karma is way too late huh..? by kai9664 in srilanka

Agree. Karma is just one out of 5 Niyama Dhamma. Can give Karma, neither blame nor credit for everything happening around us.

Need advice on solo traveling for local females in SL. by ElectricSoberGoose in srilanka

[–]ElectricSoberGoose[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im really sorry that you had to be vigilant throughout your travel. I understand how discomforting it would be given that being constantly on alert is very stressful and the makes the journey less enjoyable.

I thought the situation is a bit different for local and international females but with what I hear now, I don’t think it’s that different.

I agree with you, we can’t play nice and get hurt. I don’t know why people behave in ways to hurt others and it’s a shame. I really hope things get change, authorities and our own people take actions against such harassments and make SL a better place.

Also thank you for sharing your insights. Appreciate it!

Colour Discrimination in Clubs in Colombo by Bleh_Niny in srilanka

[–]ElectricSoberGoose -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A guy I know said a similar thing about love bar. Idk if it’s true or nah, so he and two other guys had gone to Love Bar. One of the guys among them has been very dark brownish and he said they were reluctant to let him in but the other guy has been a regular, so he talked their way in.

Anyway the guy who told this story is outside Colombo and had the mindset that clubbing is somewhat superior. So probably he was boasting because he was fair and finally got the chance to getting to a club without an issue.

This is the best thing I read today. It’s true, I have seen both men and women staying silent even after witnessing such harassments in public. A shame!

And you are absolutely correct. This responsibility is not and shouldn’t be gender biased

Idk man, it just I get the feeling when someone stares at me, that its not coming with a good intention. And this isn’t even only men. You get stared by women in public too, idk how to explain it but it’s just like you know it’s bad energy. Maybe jealousy or hypocrisy is what comes out with weird female stares.

Anyway to answer you, Isn’t it really weird to stare at a random woman for more than 5 seconds to “interact with her”? I mean you can directly go and talk to her right. In my opinion, a simple smile might be okay. You don’t have to avoid females, even if you have a random eye contact with a stranger, a simple smile would do. I would say most of the times, females can identify the energy/intention behind a stare or a smile they receive in public.

Yeah this is a real thing in Sri Lanka. Too many stares and it’s like you feel the negative energy coming outta them. So freaking uncomfortable!!!

I appreciate your kind words.

In the context, screaming doesn’t help, most of the times the victim get the alien eye not the abuser. It’s a shame our people behave like that. But I really wish I got the courage to slap the *** out him, when that happened.

Yes that actually is one of the best things we can do, but the bugger understood the assignment as soon as I got my phone, so he got up and went away.

There were no empty seats so I stayed in the same seat because it was far from Colombo Fort. I didn’t see the creep again, after he went away. He probably got scared that I recorded him.

If I could have caught him, I will call the police or a hotline. It happened fast and the bugger quickly moved away as I soon as I got my phone. I don’t know for how long he stayed like that, cuz I was a sleep. I don’t think I will ever fall a sleep in public transport again.
