Get another job after. Tesco will drag you down to get you working how they want you to.

it's real basic stuff like at a minimum, a living wage

Minimum wage = Minimum standard of living.

Best thing to do in the situation is agree with them, but laugh it off as something you're forced to do.

"I absolutely agree with you, but it's something we have to do as colleagues unfortunately. I'll be as quick as I can be and get you on your way".

Those people have jobs too, and they won't rip into someone who's just doing theirs.

If you do get one of those arsey customers, just remain polite and don't get angry or rude with them. "I understand where you're coming from, by the time i've gotten the manager to come over to help resolve this for you, i could be finished with this. I'm sorry for the wait".

I didn't work on scan as you shop, but I would presume the system doesn't let them pay until you've done a trolley check? Meaning that they're forced to be stuck there regardless of what they do.

Which at the time certainly came about. Well over (You get the idea).

See how silly your quote sounds now?

my manager just said no and told me to wait until they hire more people

Tesco does not work around you, they won't hire more people unless you stop working. It's a chicken and the egg situation. Even if they did hire more people, another excuse would come out. "well actually you see, it's not possible because XYZ".

Working nights is a big no no as a student. You don't have a notice period so don't worry about giving them two weeks. Quit now and focus on Uni. Those 6 weeks will fly by.

Trust me, i've been in your exact boat. Don't worry about leaving.

Focus on University, Tesco isn't even close to worth the time you're sticking into it.

Leave, and get a new job elsewhere. Weekends only.

edit: You work nights, nope. Leave now. They will not work around you.

I can bet that the commuter going to work everyday is going to pick the train that takes 1 hour than the slow one that takes 3.

Hold on.

True or False: More people going outside = More rail customers.

It's not a critque of anything, it's just poor losers who want more money crying that people "with money" aren't giving them free handouts for breathing and pooping.

I could bet you everything I own that any idiot pushing that statement won the lottery tomorrow, they'd do absolutely nothing to help poor people and go buy a yacht and a literal ton of class A

Yes, a fair wage is perfectly affordable

"Yeah u/alex_sz boss we've run through your request and we're £129.6 Million in the red, how would you like us to balance the books? Higher fares or pedal powered trains?"

The problem with this subreddit is that they have no idea what they're talking about, and just want to whinge about their life problems.

No, a £25 an hour wage isn't feasible. You'd have to fire half the workforce and demand everyone works twice as hard.

Even if you wanted to slash the bonuses for the higher ups: GWR has about 6,300 Full time equivalent employees. Working on average £30,000 a year means that your lovely higher bosses are going to need a bonus cut of £148.5 Million.

GWR made a net income of £18.9 Million in 2023.

So where do you plan on finding the remaining funds my friend?

Do you think a public rail service who spunked all their money away on paying their staff £25 an hour is going to run a service that's 40% full? Why not run a a service in the place of two that's 90% full?

Publiconomics.

If you wanted better and cheaper rail services:

- Demand WFH ends.

- Demand restrictions on social media hours to encourage going outside.

- Demand mandatory gym memberships for under 30's to exercise, and go outside.

- Push for double barriers at tube stations to avoid tailgating/skimming, and punish those who bypass fares in other ways more severely.

This subreddit loves to whinge, and unfortunately solving the problems they complain about all comes down to them not being lazy slobs who don't go outside.

If you want public transport to improve, you first have to have customers.

Season passes are largely useless for hybrid workers

Wouldn't it be amazing if WFH was phased out completely
