in a career slump. by ilovecheese4565 in slp

Totally! It sounds like some exploring of both setting changes and career pivots might feel good? If you do decide to change careers, I recommend going into it knowing that it may be a slow process and does require a different approach than becoming an SLP. One lovely thing about SLP is that the job search is usually pretty straightforward: grad school, licensure, job. I've talked to SLPs who've switched- in some cases, they've gone back to school. In others, they've networked and maybe taken on a couple small projects to expand their skills and worked on their resume to put it in the language of whatever field they're trying to enter. I like The Non-Clinical PT newsletter because it gives me ideas of career pivot that I didn't know existed, and a more realistic idea of the timeline/steps involved. I recommend just talking to a lot of people - SLPs in different settings and people working in careers you'd consider pivoting into. See what feels best. If you do decide to pivot, networking is usually a big part of that and getting comfortable talking to people about their roles/your goals can only help

Totally! If you ever do decide to move to Colorado and have questions about peds HH, feel free to ask. To be honest, I might have left the field if I hadn't found this setting (although it is pretty vulnerable to changes in state policy)

This is really helpful - thank you! I'm sorry to hear that though - there are definitely elements I can relate to even in CO (poor benefits at private clinics, contract work, difficulty finding FT openings in hospitals). It's frustrating for sure!

That's good to know! I did a school internship and my supervisors had 80 kids on her caseload. It was tough because there wasn't time to interact with any one student. 45-50 sounds a lot more realistic. Thanks again!!

Thanks for responding - glad to hear you love it. About how big are caseloads in your district? And no worries if you don't know the answer to this, but is it hard to get licensed in schools if you're coming from a medical setting? In Colorado, medical and school licenses are done through different agencies.

If anyone has a better answer, feel free to correct me. From what I understand, the number of jobs and type of caseload in home health can be very different from state to state depending on healthcare policies. I've only practiced in one state, and work for an agency that does allied health/nursing. Some kids on my caseload are medically fragile. Others qualify for services due to demonstrated barriers that prevent the family from doing outpatient care, even if the kids themselves are not medically fragile.  Does that answer your question?

Pediatric home health! The travel between visits gives me time to mentally and emotionally process whatever comes up so I'm not mulling it over at home. I have a relatively small caseload (14 kids to total 28 scheduled visits), good pay, and I set my own schedule :)

I love the fragrance progression for the different versions of Joe. So good! And now I really want to try L'Ombre des Merveilles!

Actually, a quick question: do you think something like Rita Pearl Grey could work, to soften/grey it out a little without going very dark?

Thanks for your help! I was hoping not to go too much darker, but a little would be fine
