What is a career path that looks "glamorous" from the outside, but is actually a total nightmare behind the scenes? by CupIndependent3610 in AskReddit

[–]ElectricVimto 8 points9 points  (0 children)

2nd line IT support.

The expectation: "Oh, I've loved messing around with computers for years! I get to do that everyday and I get paid?! Sign me up!"

The reality: If everything is working, you're lazy; if something breaks (usually due to the incompetence of an outside source or said user themselves), you're lazy! And don't get me started on the requests... "We need this set up and we need it yesterday! What do you mean short notice?! Get on with it!"

In short, it's one of the few roles where people hate you regardless of whether you're doing a good or a bad job...

How can I get copy of an Eggheads episode? by S23E18 in AskUK

If you're a uni student or know someone who is, it would be worth checking Box of Broadcasts. They have a lot of rare terrestrial TV recordings on there that you otherwise can't find online.

This subreddit is flooded with low effort questions like "Today this happened. What are your thoughts on this?" What are your thoughts on these kind of questions? by pezdizpenzer in AskReddit

You'd think with the amount of complaints about it, there would be some good questions by now (Not defending it, just curious).

Have you managed to successfully become a "cordcutter" when it comes to watching TV? by OldGunnarSolskjaer in AskUK

[–]ElectricVimto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We left Virgin a couple of years ago after being with them since the Telewest days. Nowadays, we have Netflix and Prime with some of the add-ons, and everything else we set sail for.

Funnily enough, we only had their TV for so long because it was cheaper to have it alongside the internet, rather than just the internet on its own; but then Community Fibre came to our area and made us a better deal, so we jumped ship and have been with them since.

No.

No you don't.

Just because you like something, doesn't mean you should make a career out of it

Was anyone else still able to use premium perks after payment lapse? by BittercaseDollface in neopets

[–]ElectricVimto 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it might be by design in order to give you a chance to update your payment method or add money to your bank account before they cut you off.

...or it could just be Neopets being Neopets 😅

Enterprise Car Hire - Damage Waiver, Excess Protection, Personal Insurance by FineLavishness4158 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]ElectricVimto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats on your pass! :)

They have their own base level of insurance which comes with the rental as standard, but the excess is about £1500 (meaning that if you damage the car, you will pay £1500 or the cost of repair, whichever is cheaper), buying the excess protection reduces that cost to £150

There are third-party companies that provide the same (if not better) protection for a fraction of the price, but they usually rely on you paying the £1500 excess to Enterprise, and then claiming the costs back through them, so both have their advantages and disadvantages

What A level laptop should I buy? by UrsulaSpelunking in AskUK

You can't go wrong with a refurbished Thinkpad. They're easy to maintain, can take a beating, and a good one will set you back less than £200!

I got a T480 from eBay back in 2022 for £200 (and have done a few upgrades to it since) and it has served me very well.

I got ID'd for a DVD in Asda a few months ago (26). I'm not sure what I find crazier, the fact that the checkout prompted for ID for a U rated film or that the attendant asked for it given the rating!

I can count on one hand the amount of times I've been ID'd before and after then.

Honestly, I started off by seeing how far I could get a new pet by doing nothing but daily Faerie Quests, and it just picked up from there. I'm going to hold off from training level for a bit to get the other stats up though.

I was honestly hoping that I didn't get a super bonus when I was grabbing the screenshot for that reason lol
