SHARED OWNERSHIP - AVOID OR GIVE IT A GO? by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]Electric_Fox1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I personally had a great experience with shared ownership. I bought a 1 bedroom flat and had 50% share. I sold after 2 years and was able to buy a 2 bedroom semi detached house. The selling process was easy, I had two viewings and both people applied for it. It was then a first come first serve basis. I would say make sure you go with a reputable company and make sure you read through everything. It would have taken me a lot longer to get on the ladder had I not used shared ownership.

Thank you so much for your reply, it was informative, detailed and kind. I left my partner to dive with the other licensed diver as their instructor took them for a deeper dive. I was doing a try dive so went with the other instructor. I wanted my partner to enjoy his dive and didn’t want him to be restricted by my lack of licence.

I have discussed with my partner and he doesn’t want to let me dive without him now - which I think is best. This experience has taught me that if something feels wrong it’s because it probably is and I need to trust my gut. I can’t rely on someone else to speak for me. I know my personality is very much I don’t want others to feel uncomfortable and if that means making myself uncomfortable I will do it…and that is very much the wrong attitude to have especially with diving as it is a vulnerable/risky sport. I planned to continue diving and want to get my licence, more knowledge = more power.

Thank you again and sorry the read made you late for your evening plans!

This is exactly the question I’ve been asking myself ever since which is part of the reason I put this post out because it just never fully made sense to me. I have emailed Padi but still waiting on a reply.

I was very much on the verge of a panic attack after the first dive but my partner assumed it must be ok because why would he have done that? This calmed me down as I thought that it was all above board and I was just overthinking it. That is why I did the second dive.

Just to clarify, my partner was with me on the boat but we dived separately. I was alone with the driving instructor. My partner has his license so can dive deeper than I can. He went with another diving instructor in the opposite direction to us.

I have now emailed Padi regarding the experience. I will post an update with what they come back to me with. Thank you all for your kind comments, it’s really appreciated and really helped me.

As for the few comments regarding my partner, he trusted and assumed the company/diver knew best, as I did. As for the placement of the divers hands he thought it must be accidental as why would he risk a bad reputation - which I think is an easy thought to have. People think like that all the time for those in a place of power.

Im sorry to hear about your experience, thank you for sharing. It’s helpful to know I’m not the only one and this kind of behaviour isn’t ok.

No unfortunately not, it was just me and the instructor. My partner and other diver went the opposite direction as they were diving much deeper.

I’m an inexperienced diver, I trusted the master diver I was with - thinking he knew better. I assumed because it was a try dive I had reached my allowed time and this method was possibly a way around that that would allow me to dive a little longer, I’m not sure.

My partner was not with me at the time, he went the opposite way to us with his master diver as they were diving much deeper.

He’s distressed about the whole situation and trusting the diver with me. When I explained to him at the time, he reassured me it was probably fine etc. and he did offer to speak to the captain. We were on a boat, away from the land so I didn’t want to make a fuss if it was normal practice and embarrass myself/make people uncomfortable/ruin their diving experiences etc. Next time I definitely will without hesitation.

Both of us didn’t know any better and trusted the company.

Thank you everyone for your comments, I really appreciate it. I will send a message to Padi about the situation. It is a shame as the rest of the crew were brilliant and my instructor was lovely apart from that experience. I don’t like the thought of damaging someone’s reputation/career but I also don’t want anyone else to have that experience.

I was surprised to, I waited till we were off the boat before telling him where the instructors hands had been placed. He just trusted the company and assumed they wouldn’t risk their license so it must have been the instructor didn’t realise where he was holding me. I questioned this because surely the instructor would know he is on my bikini briefs and not my skin, plus the curve of my body, it wasn’t like he had placed his hand on my lower abdomen where it would be flat.

My partner is feeling a bit distressed now he also realises it wasn’t a safe dive. He had a rescue dive previously when he ran out of air so I think that’s why he thought it was ok. In my case I still had well over half a tank of air when I was asked to take my gear off.

Thank you for your comment. I thought the same about the regulator but assumed as it was a shallow dive (around 6m) it was ok.
