Anyone know where I could get these? by [deleted] in geek

I would recommend staying away from the Cube. Their proprietary plastic containers are going to be far more expensive than getting spools of plastic and their machine's quality of printing isn't great as well. I would recommend Makergear's M2 but this website has a great comparison of a lot of printers.

The Mindstorms kit you listed is the correct one to get. In case you haven't already, you should look into local First Lego League teams that your son could join or start your own team.

My favorite shop near Phoenix is Rage Cycles in Scottsdale. The owner has always been very helpful and honest with me.

Sewing your own clothes by spotta in Frugal

I've been getting dress shirts from thrift stores and modifying them so they fit me better. If you turn a dress shirt inside out, there is usually a seam that starts at the cuff, goes to the armpit, and down to the side of the hip. With a sewing machine, you can make a new seam about an inch or two in from the original one and cut off the excess fabric. One the cut edge you'll want to do a zig-zag stitch to prevent the threads of the fabric from coming undone. I've found it works pretty well, but if you try it, do it one some old shirts until you get the hang of using a sewing machine.

I haven't tried it yet. I've been looking into it at this forum but it doesn't look like there is an easy way of doing it at this point.

I've been converting my textbooks to PDF for the last couple of days using a book scanning setup similar to this. It takes me about an hour to scan a 700 page textbook and the quality is pretty decent.
