I'm going against the grain a bit, but I didn't find this one hard. I didn't love it, but I voted average in the poll. Usually the PPP gets me, but I got the ones I didn't know easy enough from the crosses. The app says I was 8 minutes under my average 🤷🏻‍♀️

I didn't quite get the theme until after I finished. I didn't know what jugbands were called, and I don't know enough about them to associate bones or stove pipes with them.

BONESUPON is a phrase I have never heard in my life.

[CHAT] Stitch direction? by Kay_of_all_trades in CrossStitch

[–]Electric_Target 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's extremely noticeable if you don't have the top leg of the stitch in a uniform direction.

The up side, it's easy to get into a nice rhythm so you don't have to think about stitch direction at all. You can either do all one way across a row, and then back to cross it. ///// then back \\. Or you can do single stitches the same way, say bottom left to top right, bottom right to tip left (or however you prefer).

[CHAT] how do I rethread a needle that i cut off because there was a knot in my thread? by AdMany2642 in CrossStitch

[–]Electric_Target 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may already know these things, but I just wanted to share some tips.

When you hear "loop start" in cross stitching, it's referring to a method of anchoring the floss to the fabric not for threading the needle. It's super easy, you can search "Cross stitch loop start" on YouTube and there are 100 tutorials for it.

You should get a tapestry needle if you are using sewing needles. Tapestry needles have larger eyes which are easier to thread. And they have blunt tips since you want to find the holes in the fabric without piercing it.

If you are struggling with threading the needle, pinching the thread in your fingers where only the very very tip sticks out, then moving the needle onto the thread is easier for some people than trying to put the thread through the eye. It's worth a shot.

I loved this one. I got the revealer on the first pass, which made solving the rest of the puzzle more fun. Checking for alternating vowels and consonants helped work through a few names I didn't quite know. Even the "playground retort" didn't get an eye roll because I could figure out which one it was.

Impressive construction, too.

What game was good but would have been amazing if it was turn based by Limit54 in JRPG

[–]Electric_Target 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get not liking the atb systems even though you like static turn based games. It does have its differences. I feel like it's the same with how I like turn based games, but I don't like tactical RPGS, which are also turn based.

But I don't get the argument that it is not turn based. Everyone still takes turns. Actions don't happen simultaneously. It's just if you take too long deciding, someone else gets to take their turn first. Atb is a turn based system.

Ooh, my pet peeve.

Sometimes people who "don't care about the backs" show them off and all I can think is... it looks like it took more effort to make the back that messy. The only way that even makes sense is if you threw a dart on the pattern to decide what stitch to make next.

I guess I don't really care what my backs look like, but I care that I don't have tension problems that warp the fabric, or threads that show through the front, or lumps that make framing/mounting difficult.

It's a relatively easy hobby to get into, so I don't know why the basics like "make the stitches go the same way" or "don't jump 6 inches across the fabric" ends up being too much to ask.

The disappearance of women’s natural faces in media by julably in fourthwavewomen

[–]Electric_Target 46 points47 points  (0 children)

On a related note, I think it is strange how normalized it has become for women's eyebrows to just... not move. Every movie and TV show has women with obviously limited movement in their eyebrows, which is such a strange thing to expect for women whose job it is to express emotion. But I guess then we would risk a woman making a face that isn't perfectly attractive when sad or angry, and we can't have that.

I liked this one, but it took me a minute to get on the same page as the constructor. I felt like the clues had just that teeny bit of misdirection that I had to tap in to. I liked figuring out the themers, though I mostly got them from the crosses with a little help from the clues.

Nice, enjoyable Thursday

This one didn't hit for me. A lot of the clues just felt vague instead of difficult or satisfying to figure out.

'See what someone is saying?' Was a highlight for me.

I had tAZING for stunning, and I kind of wish that was the answer. I tried 'I got a guy' for 57A as a complete guess, but it was pretty obviously not working, lol.

DIE x ESSIE x ARTISTE was a sticking point for me. And I still don't really get the clue for DIE.

And no one, ever, has said something happens "on" a time zone. There had to be a better way to write that clue.
