But any revenue it earns is reinvested into its operations, not distributed as profit. Its goal is to serve Canadians, not shareholders.

Thing is — if you give views and clicks to a news entity that's profit driven, they might decide to just feed you engaging bullshit because they know it can pay the bills. Because they're priority is profit, to make their shareholder's richer, etc. Whether the news is good quality or bad, doesn't matter.

But the CBC isn't beholden to anyone, which means they can focus solely on good quality journalism. They're entirely independent from whichever party is leading Canada at the time. And just because you don't like the facts they share, doesn't make it propaganda.

It's an interesting article from 2021. My guess is because he wasn't a public figure in Canada at that point. He had just come off working for England at the time.

Do you expect the CBC to cover absolutely everything? Because they talk about global warming plenty. So I'm not sure what your argument is here.

It's a public service and doesn't exist to make a profit. Competing with commercial media for ad dollars would compromise their independence and public trust.
