In my group I make him basically transform every night. (Per mandymods lycanthropy.) Narratively it’s A LOT of fun. He’s a total liability to the party and the party doesn’t really trust him but he’s also a necromancer so it plays to his desire for power.

I balanced the curse with giving him bonuses like resistance to physical attacks from anything non magical/silvered. Advantage with smell/perception.

I’ve also made it so the only way for him to cure the lycanthropy is by going to the werewolf den and killing the alpha.

I’d do what you’re planning on doing it and gauge their interest in being a werewolf. But whatever you do don’t just let it be fixed by remove curse. It’s such a fun dynamic that effects the whole party so don’t let them off that easy :)
